Yeah, cold tools, cold engine, foggy as can be. No fun at all. Took about 5 hours total to do it right. At least it was a free repair minus 4 new bolts and 4 washers. Those Autozone employees are such tools sometimes. They let me keep my old pump, which I could have easily fixed, and they gave me a brand new one. I could have sold that new pump if I wanted to.

Gary, looks pretty good, boy they played with the 300 stuff didn't they? Ford must have had a problem with those and the L.H. side on the 460. I wonder what the difference is as I am sure Darth would have the older version since he was built 08/86 and was right at the end of production for 1986 models.

Bill - You picked up on the E8 left-side perch like I thought you might. There wasn't an earlier one shown, so most would say there was only that one, ever. But we know that means it was engineered in 1988, and since the 460 came out in '83 (?), there had to have been an E3 like the right side.

In light of that, I think I need to modify the spreadsheet to show another part #, probably E3TZ 6029-C, from "1983 on" since the E8 came after our era of truck. And, I need to provide a comment that I've guessed that is the # but don't know for sure.

However, at some point can you inspect Darth and see if you can find a part number? If so, that would tell me what to show for these trucks.

EDIT: I updated the spreadsheet on the Perches page to show "E3TZ 6029-C?" and included a comment below of "Note: The catalog shows E8TZ 6029-B, but that was engineered in 1988, so there must have been an earlier #." If anyone can come up with an earlier # then please let me know. And, I'll check with NumberDummy.

Gary, are numbers stamped on the perches? If so, when I am doing the engine change I will see if we can roll the truck out and clean the frame to get any numbers off there.

Hopefully one of my tractors can push the frame, cab and bed back in after pulling it out. Plan is to yank the "doghouse" to better facilitate removing and replacing 800 lbs of cast iron.

I can't answer that question. However, Ford usually put numbers on everything, so I hope they are. If you find them, how about taking a picture to show where they are. Might help someone who is looking for them.

Vacuum test. Engine looks good. Holds 18Hg. Jumps to zero at WOT. Goes to 21Hg on release of throttle. No fluctuations in the needle at any speed.

Yay.

If we are talking about the engine stands commonly called perches here on FTE, @Fordzilla80 can answer that, I think even with pictures (IIRC yes there are plenty of numbers on the things) if he has time....

But I'm reading real fast and not really paying attention....

Built a new fuel selector with filters.

I was pulling the filters to clean and found that the pollak six way was leaking into the electrical connector.

So had two of these:

3 port fuel selector

and decided to build a complete new selector with filters that are easier to remove.

The final result before installation:

Side view

Front view as it will be mounted in the chassis rail<br/>

The pollak selector was mounted where the new selectors are and the filters were futher back. I can now remove the filters without removing the complete assembly.

Gary, I like the layout of this page, and its easy to figure out the correct part number. Thank you for compiling all of this info!

Also, I have the 1984 EVTM, so if you would like, I can scan some pages for you to help your new website.

The diesel perches are completely different.

Photo here:

You can use it if you want. It's the view from the rear of the front of the crossmember. Unlike the petrol perches these sit directly on the crossmember.

4x481150 - Thanks! Glad it works. On the EVTM, if I have my '81, which is the first of the "standard" wiring, and Bill's '86, which is the last of the era, I should have everything I need but the "different" '80 wiring. (I think they just added circuits over the years rather than changing them. I hope.). But thanks anyway.

4x4falcon - Thanks as well. I will use your pic as I didn't know that's what the stands/perches look like for a diesel. Thanks again.

All - I've run into a major snag on the web site. Editing it has become very difficult, apparently due to its size. The vendor, Weebly, says this is a known problem and they are working on it, but I can't get their management to talk to me about how serious they are about solving it. So, having been burned in the past with people telling me they are working on it but really aren't, I'm not wanting to spend much more time creating new pages when I may have to find another approach.

However, that doesn't mean I don't want your comments, suggestions for other/more pages, upgrades, etc. so, keep those cards and letters coming in.

Took her home last night. Treated her well, and this morning she returned the favor. 10*F overnight at my house and the carbureted 460 fired right up this morning with no issues.

Then I spent an hour reading the owners manual - just because. I'm really excited to have a nice older truck.

FYI: Bill/NumberDummy has confirmed that my guess of E3TZ 6029-C was correct. (Kinda scary when I can guess what the # should have been. )

And, that Mr. NumberDummy agrees with you!
