Good luck. I haven't seen one come up for sale here in a long time. Your best bet is to keep your eyes out on Craigslist for an 85-86 Lariat tailgate. However, you'll find a whole truck easier. You'll probably have to buy a whole truck just to get that tailgate panel. You could always turn around and resell the truck without the tailgate panel.

Yes, that's the 1985 - 1986 tailgate aluminum finish panel.

The 1980 - 1984 version is reproduced.
The 1985 - 1986 version is not.
The 1987 - 1991 version is reproduced.
The 1992 - 1996 version is reproduced.

They come up on Ebay from time to time.

Well this is my truck and panel. I am not using this tailgate anymore, and am actually looking for a OEM flat stamped Ford tailgate for my resto. As to whether or not I want to let it go, I haven't decided yet. I am kind of leaning towards letting it go so someone will enjoy it.

Please let me know if you decide to sell. I just purchased a 86 f-150 Lariat 4x4 for my 14 yr old daughter as her first truck (pics to come soon).

One of the first moves i made was ordering a LMC catalog. That piece is in their book, along with a $699 price tag .

Thanks! Sean

I've heard they actually go in and out of production quite often. Not sure if that's true or not though.

That sounds like the price of NOS, (New Old Stock). And since they are rare, any New old stock item will fetch a high premium.

Mines original and will be for sale around December-February depending when I start bodywork, and whether or not I do box or cab first.

It will be posted in the for sale forum as per rules, but I'll update here when I do post the ad.

This thread got me thinking about my truck and tailgate panel. My father-in-law had told me that he had the original tailgate panel for my truck so I decided to take a look at it. I found it and it is the one with the black stripe across the bottom instead of the red, which is fine, but unfortunately the black stripe on mine is gouged/torn in places. That stripe looks like it must be a vinyl or something instead of painted on.

What's a good method to restore this panel and fix the black stripe at the bottom? If this is a vinyl decal I guess I could have one made and re-apply or does anyone sell them pre-made? I also thought of painting the stripe on too.

I don't think the later ones are reproduced. NPD and/or LMC has original Ford ones though.
