F-250 Front End Vibration

Need help finding out what is causing this frond end vibration in my truck! When I start off from a dead stop everything is fine but when I hit a dip or bump in the road the vibration will kick in. It will last till I hit another bump in the road or come to a dead stop again. If I leave my front axle locked in the vibration never happens. After it started one day i kicked it into 4 wheel drive while the vibration was happening and it instantly took it away (still have the original auto hubs). Its a 1999 F-250 Super Duty with 140,000 miles on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I had that issue on a '73 F150; the tires were too wide for the wheels. Once I went back to a tire of the correct width, the problem went away. It was a 2WD so I didn't have a stabalizer; have you checked your front end components for play?

The spindle bearing inside the wheel hub is probably wearing out. The wheel bearing is "non-serviceable", but you can get to the spindle bearing.

So you have to replace the whole hub or can you replace the spindle bearing?

You can just replace the bearing. Check to make sure the stub axle isn't scored.

It isn't a small job. The spindle bearing is accessed from the back of the wheel bearing / hub assembly. If the axle shaft is scored, you will want to replace it also.

So you have to remove the whole wheel bearing assembly to get to the spindle bearing and look to see if the axle shaft is scored?

I have an 06 that does the same thing. I got stock tires and I replaced the shock. By the way its the left front only that does it. I cant feel any play in the wheel bearing though.

The wheel bearing and spindle bearing are different. Play felt at the wheel would be the wheel bearing. Play felt by moving the axle would be the spindle bearing.

That makes sense cause I have noticed play in the shaft at the ujoint. Not the ujoint but actually looseness in the shft going into the front axle

I wish somebody would figure out exactly what's causing it, so I don't have to spend time and money trying to figure it out myself! LOL

I just had a somewhat similar vibration but very very bad when braking. It would also happen slightly when hitting a bump or turning. The cause was the mount on the frame for the front stabilizer bar that goes from the frame to the axle being loose. Never touched these in the time I had the truck so it was a big surprise to see when I was looking for the cause. Tightened the bracket down and no more vibration/hop. Just something else to look at while you’re under there. Stay safe guys!
