V10 durability and longevity

I come across an 08 F-350 with V-10 and a manual six speed with 150,000 miles on it. Not sure what it was used for but that is an awful lot of miles for a 2 year old pickup. I'm unfamiliar with the V-10's and was curious as to the longevity of a V-10 and how durable a motor like this is with that many miles on it? Any info is a help, thanks.

I wouldn't buy anything that was making wierd noises but it may just need exhaust studs which is no big deal.
When I was shopping for a 4 door 6.8 most of the trucks I looked at had 200 000- 300 000 kms and all ran very well and very quiet.

150,000 miles on a V10 is nothing as long as it had clean filters and oil.

Since it is only 2 years old chances are it is a good one. Probably it was driven on the highway alot to rack up those kind of miles. Half of your problems will be due to age and half will be due to miliage. The manual tranny is a plus.

if shes clean and doesnt look abused and the price was right i wouldnt let that truck slip past...

V10/6speed is a pretty rare combo...

only thing you might have issues with is the clutch might be worn with that kinda mileage already.

Sounds like my kinda truck! Wish I could have found one used like that I never bought a new vehicle before and hated to fork out the extra dough but just couldnt find one.

I would really like to know its history though, with those kinda miles already.

I'd run the vin to get the build and in service dates. Probably a 3+ yr old truck. Definitely used as a hotshot so it's probably been towing all its life. Not a particularly bad thing as driving these trucks daily is the best thing for them.

V10 durability

My 99, F350, DRW, has 332,800 miles on it ad still is strong with no apparent problems. I have pulled a 10,000 lb RV for at least 60,000 miles of that. The 6.8 V10 is a good engine.

I have a 99 f250 that had 201K still working it hard and its doing well.
have a 2000 EX with 188K and going strong as well.
and an 05 f250 bought new has 60k on it now
All my buddys rag me about the V10 but Im a HUGE FAN!!! The v10 is a great power plant!

The 05 and up is the way to go. 3 valve and the new trans for that year

My fleet has 5 V10's 3 2valve and 2 3 valve. The 2 valve engines in my opinion are the best, both of them have exceeded 400K. The 3 valve engines just don't hold up, my 08 has 113K and it is gutless, drinks gas and already has an engine noise. My 05 550 original engine lasted 260K but the replacement lasted just 60K. i run them to death, but I take care of them.

ya I have been saying the 05's are the best but my 05 has the most issues not that there have been alot but you would thing that a truck with 60k would have less issues than the ones with 200K..... THe Check engine light just came on today on the 05. 99 with 200K ---- no light no problems...

THe extra 50hp in the 3v is a help and the torque shift is nice too, also love the integrated brake controller.

I am sure my 05 and 08 would be better suited for another vocation but in the wrecker business where they run 20 hours a day with 2 different drivers in each one they just can't hack it. My 03's with 400k on them just keep on running, granted they like oil but thats about it. My 03's have twice the power as my 3 valves or at least it seems like it. I doubt I will have another one after these. Ford has really slipped in quality and durability in the past 5 years. I really hate to say that.
