I origninally posted this in the Ranger/B-Series section but I think it belongs here instead. I am working on a 1999 Ranger 3.0L at work. The salesman drove the truck without oil for a while and locked up the motor. I bought a rebuilt shortblock (as head gaskets were replaced 4 mths earlier) and installed it, it fired right up, and it was given back to the salesman. I get a call from him a week later that the truck lost power and died, come to find out he lost oil pressure and wasn't watching his guages. The CPS Syncro locked up, which in turn striped the gear and caused a whole lot of internal damage. I bought another rebuilt shortblock from the same company replaced the CPS Syncro, CPS Sensor, and Crank Sensor, reinstalled it in the truck. All I get now is crank with no start, I don't appear to have spark at #1 cylinder (the only one I have checked). I tried starting fluid before checking spark and nothing happened, does anyone have any ideas?

 

I found the problem and thought I would go ahead and post it here as someone else might have the same issue in the future. It was the Crank position sensor (on the crankshaft). The one I had on the truck was brand new but I bought another one and as soon as I put it on and turned the key, it roared to life.
