upgrade questions

I have a 2002 ex with a v10 and my brother liked it so much he bought a 2005 ex v10. He only gets about 10 to 11 mpg. I average 11 to 13. He called me today and said he heard that there is a fuel filter upgrade something called a grizzley or something like that, also cold air induction. Also changing the spark plugs to a hotter plug and adding a tuner. He said he heard about someone who made all these changes and went from 12 mpg to around 20 mpg. To me that sounds like alot of improvement. Just wanted to hear if yes it works or no it doesnt, and hopefully if it does maybe hear from a few of you who have made these mods. Thanks my fellow ford lovers

Smoke blower. Just search the V-10 forum, you cannot get a whole lot more for mileage out of these B.O.B.'s.

I don't think you can do any mods that will improve MPG from 12 to 20. Banks claim somewhere around 10% improvement. So, if you're starting at 12 MPG, 10% is 1.2 MPG. Not all that much in my opinion for the $$$ you'll put out for the mods.

If there is a way you can shut off certain cylinders while not towing, driving on the highway, then you'll be able to see a major improvement...without triggering a code.

Fuel filter is a gimmick. Take it right out and the system still basically runs under the same fuel pressure, the filter will not impede pressure. The hotter plugs, I don't think that would make enough of a difference. The v-10's are known to run best with the stock plugs. The cold air intake has been documented on fte numerous times to not make a difference , so don't waste your money. The tuner will sometimes get you 1-2 mpg better. I say sometimes, cuz you have a tendency to stomp on it more after the tuner because of the other improvements and feel that you get.
