compairing 99-01 to 02-03 7.3

Is it just me or do other people also see it. I see more threads about 99-01 models compaired to 02-03 models. Is it because they have more miles and getting used more or did International upgrade some of there parts to last longer. Granted I have an 02 F350 with only 86k and an 02 Excursion with only 73k so I shouldnt experience any problems with mine but I have, minor ones only so far...knocking on wood. Just would like to get other people thoughts on it.

The '02-'03 years have more bells and whistles. '99 to early '01 have forged rods. 250 hp in '01 up because of tuning. Most things are the same.

there are about twice the amount of 99-01 truck than 02-03 trucks. So it would seem that the 99-01 have more problems...but they really don't

There are very few '03 7.3Ls out there, but they're basically the left over '02s they kept making to finish up the parts and switch to the 6.0L in mid '03. Pretty much the same truck...

I sat in a 2003 F250 with the 7.3 in it one day and the gear selector on the cluster was 'PRND321'. Did the '03 7.3s have the 5 speed Torqueshift transmission?

The 7.3's were never mated to the 5R100 Torqueshifts that come with the 6.0's. Nor they cannot be modded to do so as far as I know.

So what was up with that cluster? It was a 7.3 truck, and the cluster had the correct redline, so I know it wasn't just a cluster swap. Maybe I should have just driven it.

The gear shift indicator can be easily changed, for whatever reason someone must have swapped it.

Since it was an 03 and FOMOCO swapped engines and trannies mid way through the build year, it sounds like you were in a truck with a 7.3/4r100, but a 6.0/5r110 instrument cluster.
stranger things have happened on build lines

He said the redline was 7.3 correct, at least the way I read it. Is the tranny indicator a separate part on the cluster, maybe they just messed up on that part

The trans indicator just clips into the cluster. I was actually talking to someone today with an '03 7.3, really nice truck. I am not sure on the reason why there are more 99-01s being talked about; I don't notice it. There was someone on another site with 600,000 miles on an 02 and 1.2E6 miles on a different '02 believe it or not!
