Will 5R110 Bolt In Place of 4R100?

Posted in Tranny forum but got no answers.

I'm not too concerned with "will it work?" at this point. I just want to know if the 5r110 from a 2003 6.0 diesel will mount in the same place as the 4r100 on the Ex in my signature.

Would it use the same mounts, cross member location, linkage, cooling hose attachments, speed sensor, etc?

Thanks,
Stew

I can't say it if will bolt on or not, but putting the transmission from a diesel on a gas engine wont work well, 'if' you could get it to fit, the RPM's would be all off, as most diesel's peak in the 1800 range, and doesn't the gas peak at like 3-5k?

That's not right. The transmission has nothing to do with when it shifts. The computer controls all of that, and he said he has that handled. The 5R110 for the 6.0L diesel and for the 6.8L V10 are absolutely identical.

I believe the 5R110 is a bit longer than the 4R100, but I'm not certain. I know that the cooler lines on the 5R110 are 1/2", they are 3/8" on the 4R100. The linkage should be the same.

The 4R100 has two speed sensors, the 5R110 has three.

Isn't there someone around in this forum that had a factory Excursion with a 7.3PSD with the 5R110?

I'm interested

I'd be interested in mating a 5R100 to my 7.3L when the Tranny desides to go.

No there isn't. Ford did not build any 7.3L trucks with a 5R110. Never happened.

And you should know, Mark.

There's someone claiming it though. Internet.

Would probably be cheaper to get a BTS tranny instead.

2000 F-250 with 5R110

Hi!
Have a 1999 modell 5,4 gas with plans to put a 6.8 V10 from a condemnd 2000 F-250 (is standing in the barn). The reason it that the v10 alredy has Lpg(propan) conversion build on it. The gas prices here in Norway these days are very expensive.... When I first do this jobb I wonder if I can put in a 5R110 transmision with out to many problems...From what You say it seems that the mechanicel isue should be to overcome. But what about the controlling part for the 5R110? Is it possible to get a ECU from a never modell with this combination engine(only 2V) and 5R110 to work or will a extended controll boks be needed? Seems that You have a plan for this Stew? Is that right? (Sorry for my bad grammar)

The only remote possibility of having a 2V 6.8L PCM that will control a 5R110 is to get an 2V 6.8L/5R110 E-Series PCM from '05-'06. To my knowledge, that's the only vehcile that ever was equipped with a 2V modular and a 5R110.

You are correct. I also recommend getting the wiring harness from that vehicle. It would be a very big job to convert the harness in the truck to work with a 5R110.

Hi!
OK, checked on Rockauto but they doesent sees to have any wiring harness. Have asked a few companies selling parts in in the US if they shipp to Europe but not many does. Might be easer to try to get a new controll module from PCS maybe(if they ship to Europe) . Any way thanks for Your excelent information on this question and also thanks for good information to find on this forum. It has a great value also for people in a country with not so many of this excelent trucks anymore because of new roules from the authorities making them very expensive.(Taxes and more taxes..)
