All I know is the angle of pump inside produces more oil pressure. The 15* pump came stock on the OBS and the 17* came stock on the SD. Looks like you have a SD. I was running out of oil and missing as my mods started adding up so I got a 17* and that handled the added demand for oil. Now I have the adrenaline.

its the ramp that the pistons in the pump ride on to pump the oil.

Yeah, the ramp strokes the pistons.

So the degree of it is how much its stroking the pistons.

Well, thats how I understand it anyways. I'd like to tear one apart so I understand it better. =(

Hmmmm, very interesting. I've still got my old 15* pump kicking around. I should have a look.

Its not very easy to get apart and you have to destroy the front seal to disassemble it. I started to pull one apart and bailed out cause I wasn't sure if I wanted to use it later.

They're pretty interesting on the inside. We took my buddys apart when we did the stealth dual hpop kit. He wanted two remanufactured pumps. Looking back I wish we hadn't because I had aa super duty at the time. I wish he still had it laying around now lol

I really don't see a way for them to completely fail.im sure if the plungers wear out or something I bet they might not be able to put out as high of pressures but there pretty simple. Just dime sized plungers arranged in the perimeter of a circle riding against an angled plate that fill with oil and as they rotaate agaiinst the fixed angle plate they get compressed

Thanks Justin. That's actually a pretty good explanation.
Maybe I'll just leave well enough alone.

That's similar to how a hydro gear mower pump works. What happens when the fail is the thrust bearing they ride on fails causing the tolerances to be to large and the pressure bleeds by.
