Great Job. That's exactly what I was looking for. I have the kit but haven't installed it yet. This is will make it much easier.

wow guys, glad you like the visual info.

BTW, the kit number in the second picture is for the later version of the 6 liter VGT. I think it's 2004 and up but make sure you get the right one when you order yours.
The one shown won't fit the 2003 MY. There's another kit number for that particular turbo.

Torque Values
  • Compressor backplate 14 ft. lbs. (4 bolts)
  • Turbine to Compressor- 10 ft. lbs. (w/ high strength loctite)
  • Compressor Housing- 14 ft. lbs. (6 bolts)

If someone has other torque value information please let us know. thanks.

Thank you for posting this. I have one question. I noticed that you were really careful not to allow debris into the center section of the turbo. Was there a reason that you didn't completely dissassemble the entire unit and clean it? Not trying to be critical here just curious.

Great post Benchwrench.

Question on picture labeled as 7, showing the shaved hex head.

Started using this thread to rebuild my turbo last night and had to stop at pic 07. The end of my turbine wheel does not have the shaved hex head. It has a circular end that is shaved for balancing.

Not sure how to get pics on here, but if you have a copy of the "Technician Turbocharger Guide for the 6.0L Power Stroke Engine" you can see pics on the third and forth page that show the end of the turbine wheel similar to mine.

Anyone got any suggestion on how to continue thru this step and get the compressor wheel off?

Thanks for any help.

using a rag, just grab the whole turbine with your hand and hold it in place while removing the 11mm. nut from the impeller side.

Remember that the threads are left handed
