Rhino Liner for running boards??

Has anyone done this or thought about it? I have also seen people use stainless strips mounted to the tops of the ribs to help keep scratches down to a minimum. I think using Rhino Lining would be a good alternative since I was looking at painting my running boards black anyway.

I have been told by some that this is the way to go and I am also going to do mine but match it to the color of my truck (yellow). Also they can adjust the amount of grit added to the liner so you can make it fairly smooth.

I used roll-on Duraliner on my boards in '01, back when Rhino Lining was just becoming popular. My boards weren't perfect, in fact they were patched in a hurry so I needed some way to hide the imperfections. After 10 years the Duraliner is wearing off and the red oxide epoxy primer is showing thru.

If I were building the truck today I'd use Rhino.

Spray or roll on bed liner is commonly used on running boards, just do a Google search. When I did the boards on my truck, 15+ years ago, I used black chip guard. It was real popular in the '80s to spray on the bottom 5-10" of a car to prevent stone chip damage, I don't see people using it any more. It's basically the same stuff. I think the market fell off for using it as a stone guard and the product found a new market as a bed liner. I've had it on my truck for over 15 years and it's like it was when first applied, even after spilling gas on it numerous time.

I put it on mine about six years ago they still look great; I also have step plates onn mine so I really don't walk/step on the boards. The only close-up pics are of when i had fiber glass boards. I'll see if I can get one later today.

I don't recall how long ago I put Herculiner on my running boards, but it looks great.

A guy in our club had his running boards sprayed by a professional bedliner coating service. The rep recommended a product something like an adhesion promoter that he used after the bedliner was applied so that he could paint the running boards to match the truck. I think that you might be able to see the texture in the attached photo...

I just stippled some on my boards and painted over it with the rest of the truck. Time will tell if it was a good idea. So far, I'm happy with the look!

I sprayed mine with rust converter and then painted bed liner over it.This is just temporary until I win the lottery or die.

at your local auto supply store or auto paint store, you can buy clear sheeting that is adhesive. you cut to fit. if your boards are nice you can keep them looking original and still protect the are you want. this stuff is being used on cars and trucks from the factory. you can also check with a local body shop.

RINO LINER

I sprayed rino on the bottom of everything. Cab /wheelwells/running boards even on the floor and inner firewall. I was going to put it on the top of running boards but i bought smooty running boards and then got some cherry boards to match the bed even inlaided 1 inch flatbar painted same color as truck. I havn't seen that done so thought i would try it. I also thought about grip tape. I was a skateboarded until i got to old. LOL It comes in all colors now.

The PO used Line-X on mine and I love them. Don't know how durable it will be since it has only been on for 2 years, but so far it cleans up like new with a stiff brush and a little soapy water.
