Test drove a 6.2 today,Have a question

Does the fan ever quiet down?I really didn't get a good test drive(3-4 mile's at best)But the fan seemed to scream everytime I hit the gas?I've got a 6L diesel now and been kinda pokeing at the idea of getting a 6.2 but that thing is louded than my diesel. What's your opinion on the fan noise?Does it quiet down alittle after driving for a bit?

Yes it should. The fan on my truck is loud sometimes when I first pull off but calms down after a minute or two. After that, I won't hear it again unless I'm really working the engine hard.

Next time, drive it further or drive a different truck and you should see the difference.

I just had gone to a dealer by my work because it was close(My dealer is far away). The sale's guy seemed like he didn't want to help very much and only took me around the block.I'll have to go to my dealer because he'll let me take the truck by myself for a few hours.I just couldn't believe how loud the fan was.

Mine comes on for a bit when started - But I don't really notice it after that...

Try your dealer & get a better test drive - like you said - Me thinks you will be impressed...

Funny you guys mentioned this; these newer trucks have what looks like electronic fan clutches on them that may have some PCM control??. I have noticed on our truck when cold the fan clutch is locked making lots of noise. 2 miles down the road the clutch unlocks.. Seems odd the clutch is locked when vehicle is cold.

It is odd. The fan seems to work normal once engine is heated up. A shop that we do tuning work for that does a lot of repair work on 6.0 Ford diesels says the 6.0s fans make major noise when cold as well.

They're locked when cold to put more load on the engine and bring it up to operating temp faster. It's fairly common with big rig diesels

My 6.0 doesn't make any fan noise when cold,But when she is hot it screams!I didn't know about the fan clutch locking up when cold?I'm thinking that may have been the issue with the loud fan? Thanks for the info guy's!

**UPDATE**

**UPDATE**Today I got sent out to go get dinner for tonight and would you believe...I had to drive by a Ford dealer to get to the store???Well wouldn't you know out front was a Sterling Gray(Love that color)F-250 just sitting there. I had to do it...Went in and got a sale's guy and went for a ride. The truck acted the same as the other one I drove...LOUD.The sale's guy tried giving me the old 2 mile's around the block deal so I asked him if I could go on a farther drive. He said no problem. After driving the truck for awhile the fan COMPLETELY went quiet and I couldn't ever hear the motor. It was definitely better driving experience. If the fan ran loud like that the WHOLE time driving,That would've been a deal breaker for me.I've got to stop test driving these things!

I have only 400 miles on mine, but I haven't even heard the fan kick on once yet...at all. This thing was so quiet before I removed half the exhaust that i couldn't stand it. Didn't even know if it was running without looking at the tach! Not any more though...it rumbles nicely while idling, you can feel it.
