Problem is that tranny shifts to quickly into 4th every thing else works great? When hard on acc. it goes from 3rd to 4th even faster.Any ideas would be great it's driving me crazy.

On top of your rear differential carrier there is a sensor. It is the VSS or vehicle speed sensor. Unbolt it and take it out. Inspect, clean, etc. If it looks good then replace it and go for a drive and see if that fixes it. You can also always pull the codes. If you don't have a scanner a quick check to see if there are codes is to unhook the negative battery terminals. That will clear the codes. If it runs better after that then you know yo must have had a code. When it starts acting up again go get them pulled. First thing though, check the VSS.

Yikes. The E4OD is notorious for failure at some point. After that, mechnics and tranny specific guys alike are notorious for failing at th rebuild of an E4OD. Did you try to pull codes?

It could be the electronics, My tranny would jump in and out of overdrive going down the highway holding cruising speed with no hills. Turned out it was the ECM that failed in my case.

Its best to put a scanner on it while driving and see how the ECM is commanding the tranny to shift. If the ECM is telling the transmission to shift fast then it should into 4th then you need to check the feeder signals to the ecm that tells it when to shift.

If its shifting into 4th when the ecm is not telling it to shift then you have a possible selinoid pack issue but whould likly give you a code of some kind or maybe something is screwed mechanically.

Also, I dont know what part of the country you live in or if you are a new owner of the truck, but since its cooling down at night, I hope you not mistaking the lock up convertor for a 3-4 shift. when cold the convertor has a different engagment pattern compared to when warm.

I used a OTC genisis that was available at work, a little to pricy for a regular guy like you and I to have laying in our garage. Its nice cause of the live datastream while driving but an older snap on scanner would work too so long as it has live data streaming.

All the cheaper modles kinda just do code reads, maybe some simple scans and code clearing. Maybe some other guys can jump in on scanner options with data streaming, I only have expearance with the older "brick style" snap-on scanner and currently use the OTC genisis.
