Question Fuse # 19 keeps frying

I have a 2001 F 250 7.3 diesel. It is running really bad. It keeps frying fuse #19 which is for the fuel pump motor/PCM. Is there a way to separate these to check where the problem is? It goes bad in less than a minute. Is there a plug in the fuel pump I could disconnect then put in a new fuse to see if it goes and narrow it down to the PCM? Does the PCM kill fuses when it goes bad?

It is a 20 amp under the hood.

Thanks for any help.

You could go back to the fuel tank and unplug the pump from there.

Thanks for the reply. Is it on the frame next to the tank?

OK I found the pump. It was towards the front. I started looking at pulling the wires off and saw a plug about a foot away that the wires ran into. In looking at the plug I noticed about 2 inches up was a bare spot on the red wire and it was laying on the brake line. There are only 2 wires. One black and the red with a stripe. Would that be enough to do it? Can I just tape it up or does it need something special?

I bet that's it. I would tape it up and see what happens. I think the other line to the PCM is just a input to the PCM so it can verify the pump is getting power.

Bingo. A stupid little thing like that killed the truck. I taped it up and started the truck. Sounded fine. I took it out and it ran great. Thanks for the help.
