Would you buy a 2000 Excursion V10 2wd with 235K miles for $3K
I currently have a 98 4x4, 5.4 triton Expy EB (166K mi) and want to go bigger. My expy has 0 mods with the exception of a open air filter. I can get a Power dyne bd-11 for $625 and open up the exhaust, but would like to stay naturally aspirated with the 2000 Limited Excursion. I haven't had a 2WD truck since 94' and regretted it. I'm going to check it out in the morning. I'd have no reason to keep the expy if I get the excursion.

LOL! Sorry, I wanted to provide a background. I'm from Chicago but live in Nashville. I grew up driving in a couple of feet of snow in the winter. Even though we only get about "1-3" herein Nashville in the winter, not having the 4wd option (I see it as a necessary tool) may be a deal breaker. I'll know in the morning when I see it though.....

I will never sell my Excursion. I have no doubt that this V10 will last well past 200,000 Mi. I take care of it, and it returns the favor. I do think however, it's this type of Engine that does require a person to check a few things every now and again. It helps if you know your way around the tool box. I have no need for a Diesel engine. I don't tow. The 2WD works just fine with a good L/S read diff. I've proven that on a few situation's. My brother is the shop foreman at the largest Ford dealer in this area, and all he works on is 6.0 diesels. Period. He says he has seen a few V10's come in, but it's rare anymore. Not picking no fights here, I was a Heavy Equipment tech for 35 year's. I know my way around a Diesel engine. I like em, I just don't need the headaches. They way the emissions standards are going here in California, I'd be conserned about buyiny an older Mdel and at some point having to retrofit it to make it legal in this fine state. IMHO. Enjoy the search for your Excursion. You will most likely love it.

The service techs here at the local commercial truck shop didn't skip a beat in telling me the V10 should go 300K. They have the experience of seeing fleet vehicles surpass that mileage without any problems. I just got mine with 153K and fleet service records. So I'm more worried about the body rusting out before the motor dies.

I grew up in Peoria as well and 4wd was nice a few times out of the year, but I went north to WI, and it is a must here.

Good to know since I live in WI and was contemplating a 2WD until this one came along. Glad I won't have to put sand bags in the back to get up the iced hills.
