Watch This Ford F-150 Raptor Fly 150 Feet Air and Live to Talk About It
The driver of this Ford F-150 Raptor decided to go full send and wound up flying higher and further than he probably expected.
The Ford F-150 Raptor has long held a reputation for being able to soar through the air like any massive, ultra-wide, and rather hefty pickup, well, shouldn’t. Time and time again, we’ve seen video evidence that backs up this claim, with mostly good results – save for at least one or two brutal crashes. In any event, it’s clear that the Ford F-150 Raptor is able to jump dunes, ramps, and other obstacles with ease, catching serious air and landing softly, but few have likely reached the heights that this particular example did recently.
In Hoonigan’s latest installment of its This vs. That video offerings, we get to see a 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor owned by Jason Loeliger take on Bryce Thompson‘s 2018 Jeep Wrangler in an off-road race, a recent addition to this long running and wildly entertaining YouTube series. Following a practice run, it was time for these two drivers to show off their stuff for internet glory, and needless to say, Loeliger wasn’t afraid to put it all on the line to do precisely that.
Instead, Loeliger nails the throttle prior to the first jump and winds up reaching an incredible 35 feet in height through the air before landing hard, covering a distance of 150 feet before the tires touch the ground again. The landing was so rough, in fact, that the driver’s Apple Watch makes use of its 911 feature by calling for help, after which Loeliger informs medics that he wasn’t involved in a serious crash, though he humorously notes that it’s probably a good thing it didn’t call his wife instead of emergency responders.
Luckily, Loeliger wasn’t injured as a result of this incredible feat, though the seatbelt did leave him with a bruised collar bone. His Ford F-150 Raptor didn’t escape unscathed, however, as it suffered from bent front coil buckets, creases in the frame near those items, smashed up front fenders and fender liners, broken headlight mounting tabs, damaged front tires, a cracked right rear body mount, and the driver seat track collapsed, to boot.
Despite this, Loeliger took the whole thing in stride, and even managed to drive his pickup home – which is nearly 500 miles away. He also has plans to beef up his ride to make it a bit more capable of handling such violent landings, and perhaps prevent this from happening again. Already modified in a number of ways, his Ford F-150 Raptor will soon receive a frame stiffening plate, ADV fiberglass fenders, and replacement parts to repair all of the things that broke during this wild jump.
While watching this Ford F-150 Raptor fly through the air and land hard was a truly dramatic scene by any measure, it wasn’t even the hairiest moment in this particular video. Rather, Thompson winds up racing a Ford Bronco after the track was clear, and he decided to go full send as well – which only resulted in him flipping his Jeep end over end. Luckily, he managed to walk away with no injuries as well, and has plans to rebuild his ride. It caps off one of the wilder videos we’ve seen in some time – one that’ll be hard to top moving forward.
