Looking for: Looking for a Rear Dana 44 with 2.72 gears. I think these came on 1977-1980 F100s & F150s.

The F100/F150s with this axle should be a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern, but if it's not, let me know anyway.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Jim

A Ford 9" would work, but I was trying the Dana 44 route first since Ford 9" uses troublesome-at-times C-clips to keep the shaft in the tube and the Dana 44 doesn't.

(The Dana uses a bearing pressed onto the shaft along with retainer plate to keep the shaft in the axle tube).

Thanks for the reply though

44s used C clips? Hmmm... The D44s I've seen did not have them but used a design that uses a bearing retainer plate to hold the axle shaft into the tube via the wheel bearing that is pressed onto the axleshaft.

Granted, the D44s I've seen have all been on Full Size Jeeps and not Fords.

I guess Dana could have changed the design somewhere along the line, but a fundemental design change like that would seem to warrant a different Dana model #.

What Dana 44s (year, front or rear) have you seen with C-clips?

dana 44 has rear inspection cover. 9 inch has the carrier that comes out the front with the rear of the housing all solid. dana 44s wre used on 77 up to about 86 when they switched to the 8.8 in full sizes. i do think jeeps use a different set up as you say. hope this helps.
