Description: I had started a thread earlier this year in the forums to fee out what the truck may be worth. There was a lot of discussion, and from that, I have pulled must of the information I provided to give an accurate and detailed despription of the truck along with a photo of the truck in it's current condition which is by all acounts far better than excellent fora 32 year old truck.

Here's the basic story on the truck:

My dad special ordered the truck and took delivery May 2 1977.
He installed a set of special ordered 16.5" slotted mags that are thick like a 3/4 or 1-ton would require, but they are drilled for the 5 lug pattern and 33" tires soon thereafter. I have the original wheels and tires that came on the truck.

In 1980, the original 400M made a trip to the Grand Canyon, a completely frustrating experience as the truck was guzzling Amsoil synthetic engine oil with no trace of where it was going. (turned out many years later when the engine was torn down to be rebuilt for our 77 T-Bird that the intake valve guides were shot with only 22k on the engine)

On return from the trip, my dad, who was a mechanical genious but loved metal fabrication, body and paint work, set out to install a 429 Police Interceptor from a '70 LTD police car into the truck. 8 months later the truck had big block power.

Some of the little details are the motor mounts that are a hybrid of the original 400m and a 72 F-350 460 cross bolt mount. Entirely overkill, but that's the way he did things. The oil pan is half 460 van pan and half 400m made to hold 10 quarts. There is a windage tray installed to keep the oil off the crankshaft when off roading. He had a custom converter made by A1 in the San Fernando Valley that works well to this day with the 460 Ford Motorsport SVO shortblock based engine that he and I built and installed in 1994.

When I say he special ordered this truck, it was down to the last detail like the limited slip front differential in the Dana 44. The truck has Factory air that blows cold still. There's cruise control, variable wipers, dual tanks, a custom hitch and receiver. The list is long. Very long.

I don't have any good pictures of the engine compartment or interior, but they are both immaculate. The interior is super clean, no stains, the original seat cover has always been covered and is still pristine, there are no stains in the carpet, or anything like that. The enging comartment is clean, polished Cobra-Jet valve covers, polished/chromed stock air cleaner, just tons of detail stuff. I can take more pictures of the truck if someone is truly serious.

I need to move on. There is certainly someone out here who will appreciate this truck as much as I do. I have grown up with this truck, and now I have a family that has outgrown the truck, and quite frankly, so have I. This is a spare vehicle that I am fortunate enough to be able to keep stored indoors as long as needed. I am posting the truck here as a start. As time goe on, I will list it elsewhere until it eventually finds a new owner.

I need to replace my wife's Windstar, and am an have been looking at diesel Excursions, in spite of the high cost of diesel fuel. That is the only vehicle I will even consider for a trade at this time. If you are seriously interested in the truck outright I'm open to realistic offers.

I have a 2000 Excursion LTD PSD 4x4. My kids (4) are all leaving, only one at home now. So it just sits in garage until the week ends.I sold my 78 four months ago and have been wanting another old Ford. Check for pics in my gallery. Thanks

Dads79: PM Sent.

A few more little things:
I have the original wheels and tires for the truck. I have a new in the Ford bag aluminum grille shell. The one on the truck has some very normal sand pitting, and is totally fine, but I have a spare new grille shell.

There is a custom fit heavy duty canvas cover for the truck that hasn't been on the truck since the early 80s. It's in perfect shape, but it doesn't fit over the camper shell, and the shell hasn't been off the truck since about '83.

Anything else I have for the truck including all of the build documentation and receipts from the 429 and later 460 swaps will be included. I think I even have the window sticker and maybe the special order docs.

Thanks for looking.

Is this truck a long bed or short bed? If it's the long bed, is the canvas a bed cover or a ffull vehicle cover? I need a new tarp for mine.... Thanks for a swift reply back, p.m. me, ok?

Let me clarify this as tactfully as I can. The truck is for sale with many extras (both original and aftermarket) that will benefit the next owner in regular use, restoration, or for show. No parts are available seperately. All of the parts I have for the truck come with the truck.

Please don't make offers for individual items.

This truck is still available. I just got it out of storage this past weekend. Did a light tune up on it. Put it on the dyno and checked it out. It runs good. Considering the truck has heavy wheels and tires, and that it's a 4wd, the dyno numbers were pretty respectable.

I'm doing a pretty thorough clean up on it right now. When I'm all done, I'll take some new pictures to post with the dyno sheet.

The truck is still available. I had not planned to aggresively persue selling it again until February, this isn't really the season things seem to sell. Feel free to make an offer, the worst that might happen is I'll say no...

I'd prefer a PM, and if you want, I'm happy to exchange phone numbers to discuss the truck.

Update: Since I last posted, I have worked on the truck a bit. I put it on the dyno and did a little tuning. It runs excellent and put down 330 torque and 220 horsepower at the tire, all very usable at fairly low RPM. I'll be doing some more maintainence and just cleaning thins up a bit as the engine compartment is rather dusty and it needs a good wash and vacuum.

Thanks for looking!
