Description:

Front Dana 60 w/4.10 gears, rebuilt 460, C6 auto - runs good, but has bad rear axle (can be driven short distances on front axle). Mainly selling for parts - could be restored, but needs bed & has some rust on rear framerails. Wouldn't recommend driving home, as it only has front brakes and has an open exhaust.
Located in western Michigan (between Muskegon and the Silver Lake Dunes). The $700 price is firm...I know that the front axle is worth that much by itself, so I'm not going to go down in price (sorry).

I am interested in your truck, mainly for the front axle. I am assuming you do not want to sell parts, although I think you could get more $, and still haul the rest off for $200+ in scrap metal.
Anyway, I would like to see pics of the steering arm on the drivers side, specifically the top of the spindle,.. if it's not too much trouble. I would also like to know how many miles are on the truck, and how many since the 460 rebuild. Thanks Jake

How bad is the rust on the frame? Running gear is tight other then the bad rear axle?
Thanks

The frame isn't too bad, but it's rusty enough that one of the upper rear shock mounts broke off. Also, the rear spring hangers are rusted through - which seems to be pretty common with these. I've seen frames that were worse, and frames that were better - I just don't want to give anybody any false hopes.
The truck was owned by the same person from 1979-2005, and it was his daily driver and only vehicle...so it's been driven year-round in Michigan for 25+ years, and has seen its share of road salt. Nobody knows how many miles it has (probably 250-450K), but every time the truck had an issue the previous owner took it to a mechanic to have it fixed. When I bought the truck in late 2005 the guy had just driven it from Michigan to Montana and back pulling a 13,000-pound 5th-wheel trailer (it no longer has the hitch, but still has the brake controller).
So, the previous owner was pretty confident...but I'm not sure I'd trust the truck to drive that far right now, even if the rear axle/brakes/exhaust were fixed. I would recommend that if someone uses the front axle that they go through it first - I haven't messed with it, and can't really vouch for its condition. It moves the truck around, but it has a lot of miles and I don't know if/when its ever been rebuilt.
I should probably mention that when the rear axle went out it locked up, and the rear U-joint busted in half - it's possible a new U-joint would be all that's needed, but the end of the driveshaft is also pretty banged up. It's got a 2-piece driveshaft, and I've removed the back half of the driveshaft and the spiders out of the rear axle so the truck is moveable under its own power.

Yup, still have the truck. The hood & fenders aren't bad, though there's some rust underneath on the fenders. The doors are okay, but the rocker panels and rear cab corners are rusted out - it looks like somebody tried to patch the cab corners at some point. The floor itself is actually pretty solid, even in the back seat area.
I think I have some detailed pics in my gallery - I haven't checked it in a while.

would you want to sell strictly the front axle?

I would rather sell the whole thing together, as it won't be easy to move around once the front axle is gone. For that reason, if I did sell just the front axle I'd need a fair amount...perhaps $500 or so.

If someone wants to come to my place and take off the front axle, I'll let them have it for $500 - but I'm not willing to take it off myself and send it to someone (sorry). I've got back issues, and am not supposed to be picking up more than 10 pounds - which means that dragging my tools around and taking the axle off a 30-year-old truck isn't really something I should be doing.
