Tuned Ecoboost F-150 Hits the Drag Strip
The EcoBoost range of twin turbo, V6 power still has both its critics and its proponents, despite putting up impressive power numbers and sales figures. And it hasn’t stopped a healthy aftermarket from spawning and producing some seriously fast trucks.
One of the original EcoBoost tuners was MPT Performance, who began tuning and testing the little V6’s from the time they rolled off the showroom floor. Their first truck was a 2012 F-150 that pumped out 660 horsepower and 720 lb-ft of torque, with an added 150 hp shot of nitrous to make things more interesting.
Despite a leaky oil seal, the little engine that could ran a respectable (and at the time a record for the EcoBoost) 12.117 second quarter mile. Not too shabby given the weight of the truck and the power numbers.
Things have come a long way since then, and MPT has spent a lot of time tuning and developing products with a new test bed 2015 F-150. A simple tune gave the 3.5 a whopping 30 hp and 52 lb-ft increase over stock right off the bat, which is pretty awesome for something that takes only minutes to install.
After simply tweaking the throttle and smoothing out the torque curve, the F-150 laid down 408 hp and 526 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, which is a healthy increase of 109 hp and 158 lb-ft of torque over stock! For the price and the ease of installation, there’s really no better way to seriously upgrade the power of your EcoBoost.
