Is a Supercharged and Twin-Turbocharged 5.4L F-150 a Good Idea or a Great Idea?!?

There are all sorts of different ways to make more power from an engine. Turbocharging is one of those ways. Supercharging is another. They both have their benefits and they both have their negatives. Though some people out there don’t think in terms of one or another. No, they think about “what if I do both?” F150forum.com member ibd2328 decided that was a good idea, and is working on that attached the Ford’s 5.4L V8.

Surrounding this monster of an engine setup is a 2003 F-150 SuperCab FX4. Like any good build, ibd2328 is afraid of actually adding up how much he has invested in the project, but estimates about $20,000 at this point. He’s been working on it for quite a long time, but based on his components he’s doing it right.

He’s only projecting currently around 800 horsepower for the setup. Which is actually quite a bit. But he’s opting for some smaller turbos to help reduce turbo lag. Including a supercharger also helps with lag, since superchargers actually have no lag at all.

We can’t wait to see this thing up and running. With all the extra fuel system and cooling mods in place, we’re hoping it handles all the extra boost without any issues. We like mad builds, and this is definitely one of them.

Be sure to check out his build thread here, and let us know what you think in the comments or over in the forums!
