Kahne Headlines Ford Qualifiers at Charlotte with Fourth Place Spot

KASEY KAHNE – No. 9 Budweiser Ford Fusion (Qualified 4th)ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN “That was a good lap. If felt really good. Everything about that felt good actually. I am really happy with the car and the adjustments and where we are at. I am a little surprised it wasn’t faster actually. That will be a good spot.”

GREG BIFFLE – No. 19 3M Ford Fusion (Qualified 41st)ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN  “I am embarrassed with it actually.  It is always tough going at the beginning, and especially today. That is just the way it is. Luck of the draw I guess. You have to run the same speed as the cars that you are going out around and he is three-tenths faster than we are. That is going to be trouble.”

TRAVIS KVAPIL – No. 38 Long John Silver’s Ford Fusion (Qualified 42nd)ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN “Not very good. We unloaded today and the car felt really good. We were really tight out there and I am really disappointed with that lap and how the car drove. I felt like at the end of practice it was not bad and we made some adjustments from there. We just were tight and lost lots of speed from the center of the corner off. We have our work cut out for ourselves because we are going to be toward the back. I think our race car is good though. Hopefully we can move up over 600 miles.”

DO YOU THINK MAYBE YOU OVER ADJUSTED GOING INTO QUALIFYING?  “Yeah, we probably did. I was complaining about not having enough rear grip in the heat of the sun. Now it is cooling and the track is getting more grip. Maybe we should have left it alone or gone the other way. I am disappointed with the lap, but 600 miles is a long night.”

ELLIOTT SADLER – No. 19 Air Force/Stanley Ford Fusion (Qualified 40th) - ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN “That is a pretty bad lap. The car didn’t drive anything like it did earlier in practice. We need to go figure that out. We are going to have to get it better.  We will go try to find out what happened and go from there. It is a long race on Sunday, so we will just work on getting better.”

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion (Qualified 16th)ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN “For the time of day and how we ran in practice, that was a really good lap for us. I hope it ends up in the top-20. If that is the case, we will have a good spot on Sunday.”  DID YOU FEEL A CHANGE IN THE TRACK?  “Yeah, we made a lot of changes in our car, but we had more grip in practice. Especially with these delays when people spin out, the track is getting faster. We are probably going to get beat up pretty good, but there were a lot of cars better than us in practice that we just beat.”

DAVID RAGAN – No. 6 UPS Ford Fusion (Qualified 34th) –  ON HIS SPIN OUT BEFORE COMPLETING HIS FIRST QUALIFYING LAP  “I was trying to get all I could coming to the green and was going a little too hard. The car was pretty free. I think it just cooled down a little bit and the car had a lot of grip. We blew a tire and were fortunate not to hit anything. We were fortunate that we were fast enough to get the car back out. It is certainly not what we wanted lap-time wise, but it is a lot better than coming from the back of the field.”

CARL EDWARDS – No. 99 AFLAC Ford Fusion (Qualified 31st)ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN  “It is a lot better than I expected. It wasn’t the best lap but the car handled pretty well.  With one lap on it, that was a big shot in the dark for everybody. I am proud of the team. We had that tire go down and lost our primary earlier today, but I think this car will be just as good … and we get to keep our starting spot”.

PAUL MENARD – No. 98 Menards Ford Fusion (Qualified 32nd)  – ON HIS QUALIFYING RUN  “I was hoping for a bigger pick-up than that. We struggled getting off turn four all day today. That is where I made up a lot of time last week in qualifying here. We just have to see how it shakes out. We have a good race car nonetheless.”

DO YOU FEEL IT WAS A DISADVANTAGE GOING FIRST ON A DAY LIKE TODAY AT THIS TRACK? “Yeah, the sun is going down pretty quick. It is a disadvantage but there is nothing we can do about that. We just have to go do the best job we can.”
