Ford’s Platinum Explorer Fastest-Selling Explorer Model
With gas prices low, and manufacturers offering higher class trim levels, people are taking the opportunity to put themselves into more expensive vehicles than they ever have before. That’s the secret behind the success of the Platinum trim level of Ford vehicles. This is especially with with the Ford Explorer Platinum, which is the fastest-selling Explorer model.
Ford’s Mark LaNeve, speaking to journalists at the Chicago Auto Show, talked about the growth of SUVs in the United States, including the growth of Millennials in the car market. LaNeve even paraphrased Mark Twain by stating, “the death of the Millennial car driver has been greatly exaggerated.” In fact, according to Ford’s research, 75% of Millennials would have no problem decreasing their budget so that they can keep their cars.
More car buyers clearly means more sales, and Explorer is reaping the benefits. Twenty-five percent of Explorer Platinum buyers are luxury conquests from premium nameplates. So instead of going Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, or BMW, buyers are choosing Ford. We saw similar trends during the Recession when people were downsizing their vehicles. Now it seems that Ford has stepped up their luxury offerings and are not viewed as a compromise by luxury buyers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Explorer Platinum last year, and would easily choose it over the new Lexus RX if it were our money. Apparently, we’re not the only ones who would do so.
