New EcoFix for 2011-2015 F-150 EcoBoost Rattle Issues
If you own one of the new 3.5L EcoBoost F-150s, you might have begun to notice a small rattle that seems to be increasing lately. As we understand the problem, as the 3.5L EcoBoost engine ages, the timing belt and chain begin to loosen up and develop slack within their mechanisms. This then causes the rattle and noises you may have been hearing coming from the engine bay. Thankfully, Ford has already come up with a permanent fix for the situation.
In the video below, Ford Techs Makuloco takes some time out of his day, and explains what this new fix is, why it needs to be done, and how to go about fixing it. This is definitely not a home project though. The fix requires a fair number of new parts being bolted onto the engine, and definitely will require a full lift.
If you’ve been noticing a small rattle coming from your F-150 EcoBoost, we definitely suggest you take it to your local Ford dealership, tell them the problem and that it likely needs the TSB 15-0131 fix.
