This 1978 Ford F-150 is a Big and Brown Big-Block Bruiser
70’s Ford trucks weren’t exactly subtle. They made a statement with a big squared jawed and blocky face, they had the tough-look that has spawned legions of fans. Design-wise big departure from the soft, rounded look of prior years, they simply looked just like a truck should look — menacing.
This 1978 F-150 fits the bill perfectly. Punctuated by a suspension lift and big ol’ tires, it’s the kind of look that motivates slow drivers to move out of the left lane, hybrid drivers to give you dirty looks, and little children to freak out with excitement.
The best thing about this big brown four wheel drive truck, is that it also has a beastly motor under the hood to match its beastly looks; a 460 V8 Block. Details on the build are scarce, but an open element air cleaner, Ford racing valve covers, and headers, hint at some major upgrades underneath.
Inside, things are, well, brown. Mostly original except for some aftermarket gauges and radio. Oh, and the flat bench is about as basic as it gets. The original steering wheel and dash are still there, along with the door panels.
Overall, it’s a nice package for a cruiser or an off-road toy, as you’ll get equal satisfaction from both. Whether you’re filling the rear view mirror of a Prius, or traversing rough terrain, you’ll be happy with this one.
