1969 F-100 “ThundersTruck” is One Killer Restomod
Restomods represent the best of both worlds – classic cars and trucks with modern suspension and drive train upgrades. They drive and handle like a brand new vehicle, yet retain that timeless character that has been lost on modern automobiles.
V8 Speed & Resto Shop knows a thing or two about building a sweet restomod. A full service shop that does everything from basic service to full on builds, they’ve been documenting their more interesting projects via V8TV for several years now.
One build that caught our eye, for obvious reasons, is this 1969 F-100, dubbed “ThundersTruck.” On the outside, it looks like a nice, stock ’69 with some upgrades. But underneath, nothing remains from that bygone era.
The entire rolling chassis and drive train from a wrecked 2002 Lightning has been fitted below that beautiful body, making this a bit of a Frankentruck. That includes the supercharged 5.4 liter V8 and all of the original electronics and wiring.
Obviously, a lot of work was needed to make the chassis fit, and it’s all documented through a six part web series. It’s certainly not a job for the faint of heart, but the end result is worth it. When it comes to combining the classic lines of an old Ford truck with the beastly heart of one of the best performing trucks of all time, this one knocks it out of the park.
