Replacing two older transmissions in all 2011 production Ford Super Duty trucks will be the 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission. A different kind of transmission specifically developed to help use the high low-end force created by the new diesel powerplant. This transmission has also been matched with the new 6.2 litre V-8 gas engine to give owners of both power plants access to the ability of the 6R140 TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission to put all of the force and power on the ground where it matters the most. Designed to be more efficient for the better fuel mileage you need, the architecture of the 6R140 TorqShift six-speed transmission has been enhanced using space-age technology and innovation. The enhancements to the 6R140 TorqShift provide lower clutch speeds, which decreases losses due to friction, and optimizes fluid levels and fluid backup to decrease fluid agitation while at the same time increasing lubrication to the parts that need it the most.

The new TorqShift transmission on all 2011 production Super Duty Ford trucks also includes improved Tow Haul with integrated engine exhaust braking and the SelectShift feature which has both Progressive Range Select and a manual mode. SelectShift allows you to lock-out gears that you don’t need to do the job at the moment and manually shift to hold gears, in a way, similar to Dodge’s and GM’s automatic transmissions, which allows you to choose a gear useful to the requirements of the job at hand, and gives you a lot more control of the forces and events involved in the process of moving heavy loads with your Super Duty truck.
