Is Ford Backing Off From Tough Bailout Talk?

If you were one of the lucky viewers who got to see Ford's latest "Press Conference" commercial before it was pulled, then you got to see a pretty darn good commercial. In the most recent version of the popular Drive One marketing campaign, a normal everyday Ford driver is again plucked from the street and plopped in front of a press conference. The rabid reporters ask a hundred questions, but we only saw this latest Ford owner answering one question: "Was buying American important to you?"

Ford claims these ads are all unscripted, and that the words are those of the participants, in this case, the owner of an F-150. That his words are his own seems quite believable, considering his answer. His words are heartfelt and sentimental. And he gives us a good bit to think about what it means to be American:

“I wasn’t going to buy another car that was bailed out by our government. I was going to buy from a manufacturer that’s standing on their own: win, lose, or draw. That’s what America is about is taking the chance to succeed and understanding when you fail that you gotta pick yourself up and go back to work. Ford is that company for me.”

Whether they are Ford's words or the Ford owner's, it is still a Ford commercial. And it is the first Ford commercial to publicly mention the bailouts of the other American car companies.

Is it about time Ford made mention of the bailouts? Or are some things better left unsaid? Apparently, the spot's been pulled, as you can see from our attempt to post the video below. Do you think Ford should freely air the ad? Or is transgression the better part of valor? Voice your opinion here!
