Thanks- Brett > ____________________________________________________________________ > To figure the cubic inches, multiply the liters X 62 to get with in a couple cubic inches. There are about 62 cubic inches per liter. 6.8 liters X 62 cu. in./liter = 421.6 cubic inches. Hope this helps. Dan - Wisconsin ------------------------------ From: "Liz Marr" Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 08:59:57 -0800 Subject: Intro and questions I have a F250HD with the 1.7 Power Stroke and 5-speed. Truck is 1997 2x that I use for light delivery service (up to 1K on the bed or 5+K on a trailer) I love this truck! It doesn't even start to compare to the F150 300/6 I had before. Normal fuel consumption is 20-25 MPG on hwy (if I keep it under 2200 RPM) Plenty of power - doesn't even slow down on the hills, even with a load. Since I bought it used with just under 60K miles, I expected some problems, so that is my question. It has two problems. One is shifting, the other starting. It is good that I learned shifting on military trucks that don't always have much for a clutch, as this truck seems to have a clutch that needs adjusting. No, it isn't slipping (yet) but it won't go in gear and will creep forward (or backward) if I sit on a level surface with it in low gear and the clutch pushed in. Because it is impossible to shift into low once the truck is stopped, I shift it down as the compression alows, and then when I am stopped I leave it in gear. Since I was trained that if I'm not using the gear, take it out of gear, this is driving me mad. I normally have it out of gear at traffic stops or any other time when not moving. It has been suggested that I rebuild one or both of the clutch cylinders - this makes sense because if I pump the clutch, I can sometimes get it to shift down. It has never slipped or smelled like burning friction material, so I think that the clutch itself is fine. As an added note, there is sometimes a "pop" or "crunch" sound that seems to come from the clutch pedal itself when I push it, making me think that something is slipping in the mechanics of the process (also fits in with bad/worn cylinder idea) Up-shifting is also fine. The other problem seems simple enough - it won't start when cold. Leave it plugged in and it starts right up, but it takes multiple attempts to ignite if it hasn't been plugged in. I'm talking 40 degrees here - not anywhere near freezing. I can get it to start quicker if I turn it over while the warm-up light is still on - but I don't think this is good for the glow plugs. Thanks for listening. I really love this truck and want to get it working better and maintain it for as long as the engine will go (I've been told that they get to 300K pretty easily) Liz Marr -- Liz Marr Owner, Canine Connection mailto:nweagle http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.nweagle.com ------------------------------ From: MadPoodle Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 13:01:29 EST Subject: Re: Towing Mirrors Darn, sometimes you just go to reread your old mail. Sorry, got busy and never did send p/n's. I bought the Y2K extendible power mirrors last year for my 99 F 250. Simple to install, just drop the door panels, fish the wires, and off you go! I have the install instructions from FOMOCO' s kit that they sold for the 99's with the regular TT's. The kit was way cheaper than having to buy the TTT's separately, but they did not offer the TTT's in a kit form that time. If you want, I can fax the instructions to you.. Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 12:37:26 -0600 I am about to order the Airlift Company's overload system and was wondering if anyone else on the list had any experience with the kit and installation. I am ordering Load Controller II (PN 25812) and the Air Lift super duty system (PN 57215). I tow a 13K fiver (wet) and and am tired of bouncing over every bump (2250lbs on hitch). When I ordered the truck I did not yet have the trailer and did not opt for the overload springs and now I am having to fix with the airlift kit. I am going to do the intallation my self and would like all the details if anyone else has done this. The techs don't know if I will have to drill in the frame or not. My truck is a 00 f250 CC with the 6.5 short bed. Jeff Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2001 11:41:17 -0800 From: john yee Subject: Re: air lift suspension?? I have a 99 F350 SC shortbed, and a friend has a 99.5 F350 CC shortbed. Both 4x4's. We both haul Lance truck campers, and have air lift bags. Neither of us did the installs, but frame drilling is required for the upper bracket. Sharp bits are a must. I did look at the instructions after the fact, and they do look pretty straight forward. We also have the overloads in the rear, and did not have to remove them per the instructions (from what I remember). I don't use the compressor, and run the air fill lines into the fuel fill area to keep them extra clean. In my case, the air bags really help for a porpising effect that can be experienced with a truck camper. Rancho 9000's take care of sway and body roll. Center of gravity is pretty high, that you won't experience with a TT or 5th wheel. If you look closely at The firestone equivalent bag, they look like better components are used. Reliability doesn't seem to be an issue though. Hope that's of some help. -john > . I am going to do the intallation my self and would > like all the details if anyone else has done this.
