Being the old Boy Scout, I decided to "be prepared" by trying out my spare
tire under ideal conditions so I would know what to do when I have a flat on
a cold, snowy, muddy night.  The spare tire lock tool looked kinda cheesy,
but engaged just fine.  My biggest concern was dropping the spare while my
12 foot camper was loaded in the bed of the truck.  I ended up making a
adapter so I can turn the rod using a ratchet because the lug wrench doesn't
clear the bottom of my camper.  The end result is that the spare drops with
no problems.

One warning though.  Someone a while back had trouble with their crank down
mechanism because they had unrolled much of the cable and then started
cranking back up with no tension on the cable.  The crank bound up on him.
So make sure you keep tension on the cable while cranking up so it spools up
without binding.  This is where my ratchet adapter comes in handy as I can
easily crank with one hand while using the other to pull down on the cable.

   Dan,
I didn't see any responses to your question, but figured I'd chime in with a
question. Who makes filter assembly? We have 5 or 6 of these trucks running
around, might be a good idea for us to install them. Thanks!
