Well my 99 Ranger just started doing something like this when I had it in 4
wheel drive. Took it to the deal and they said the ford designed the seal
wrong on the front bearing. So of coarse the parts are on back order. So
far I owned this truck 11 months and have found 4 items that were designed
wrong.

1. Drive shaft
2. Wiper control
3. Transfer case flange
4. Bearing seals

I think ford better get their act together or this truck is going to be
trade for a Dodge.

Steve,
My son has a '89 BII (140K)that started ticking like
yours. Now it has a rapping from the bottom end. The
ticking is due to insufficient oil getting to the
lifters, because the bearings are worn and there is
not enough oil pressure.

I want to ask the people on this list what are the
options on rebuilding/replacing this 2.9 L? Can a 4.0
L be swapped in place? The heads on the 2.9 were
replaced recently. Can these heads be used on another
block other than a 2.9 L?

Thanks,

Dan Lee

Subject: FTE Small - DOME LIGHT SWITCH

hi,

I finally brought my 1997 ranger in for the dome light problem. It turns
out that a lot of the 95-99 rangers have a bad switch which could
negatively effect the dome light, wipers, door ajar beeping sound. The new
switch is on back order for a month! I was told that they have to take out
the front dash to fix the problem. For now, until the part comes in, they
ahve taken the switch that controls the dome light out. Hopefully, this
problem will be corrected in a month or two. I'm glad its will still
under warranty! Has anybody out there heard of this problem that the
rangers are having? anymore info. about it?
