Hi all. The 4WD in my 94 Ranger is in-op. I'm sure that it is
an electrical problem in the "Touch Drive". Does anyone know how
to trouble shoot this system, or if a trouble shooting guide is in
Chilton, Haynes, or All Data? Is there a common problem or weak
part in this system? Any help will be most appreciated. Buck Shoff

What are the symptoms? Does it click, not engage at all, or start banging?

Now that makes me feel much better. I am trying to do my best to keep =
the
engine happy with regular fluid and filter changes. I hope that our =
highway
speeds - I travel at 80-90 mls/h - won't kill it.
BTW: What's the rear seal?=20

Just a tid bit I'd like to throw in about the 3.0's, they are one of =
the
better
engines I've come across when it comes to life expectancy..... we just
junked an
'88 Aerostar that had a 3.0 in it, it went through two sets of spark =
plugs
in it's
life, the original set and a set of Autolites, the engine was still =
running
better
then anything after 185,000 miles, the only thing that pushed it in to
retirement
was it's rusted out unibody and one careless 17 year old driver. The =
only
major
problem we ever had with it was it puked the rear seal at about 125,000
miles,
other then that it saw both coast lines of the U.S. and Canada twice, =
and
ten years
of daily commute, I think the Iowa winters is what rusted it out =
though, as
with
every other vehicle in this state!

My Aerostar does exactly that. One side of the window drops lower than =
the
other and it's a pain in the $%&! Where can I find the fix? Right now, =
as a
workaround I put some talcum powder on the window tracks to keep them
smooth.

Betreff: FTE Small - 97 Ranger power window problems

I have a 97 Ranger with power windows. Sometimes the windows don't
seem to roll down/up fast enough. The passenger side window motor was
replaced under warranty. Both windows will roll down great when they
first start down, but slow down considerably after middle ways.

In Aerostars, this is a classic failure and there's a Bulletin for it.=20
Check to see if one edge of the window drops lower than the other. If =
I
remember, the cause was worn window track strips, but there was an
interesting fix.
