Adam it sounds pretty good. I need some people on my side. I do give my
neighbors common curtousy but hey you just have to love the roar of a V6.
If you don't I'm sorry. If I had neighbors like rgstien pacbell.net I'd
sure have to pull up next to his house at around 3 AM and power brake until
my tires were down to steel belts. I try to respect my neighbors but when
they don't respect my rights I tend to get irrate. Too all that dislike
loud exahusts and big motors then they don't belong on this mailing list.

Anything is possible. I think if you added a KKM filter and Flowmaster II's
you'd find that it give you about 20 more horses. If you added headers,
chip, cam and changed your gears I'm sure you'd be able to beat him. You
should definatley check out this website... It's http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.4x4 central. com .
Check out their bulletin boards.. Those guys can help ya out.

Wow, time for a new amendment to the constitution: the right to have a =

No, seriously, I think it's you who's on the wrong mailing list. The =

Just my two cents...

Actually, the muffler has more to do with the sound than a bigger
pipe. Anything you do after the muffler will likely have little
effect on the sound.

A bigger pipe will mean less back-pressure, but, again, the muffler
and the catalytic converter are probably the items which give you the
most back-pressure and the most sound deadening.

Platinum plugs can't damage your engine, unless they are not the recomended
number... That goes for any plug...
If the reach is too long, the pistons could hit the plug, or if the heat
range isn't the recomended one it could ping (too hot a plug) or foul (too
cold a plug).

Joe,
Your "rights" do not include the right to harass and annoy others.
Anyone that power brakes in front of my house with "loud exhaust" at 3am
will be staring down the business end of a Taurus .44 magnum.
There are laws in *ALL* 50 states regarding noise and you would be ticketed
and possibly arrested for running no muffler and harrassing/annoying people.

Whoops. . . apparently I am on the wrong list! I thought this was the
Ford small truck mailing list, not the "I like having a loud truck
because I think it helps me look cool" list. Sorry. . . . I'll be leaving
now!

And notice that throughout this ENTIRE discsussion there hasn't been a
single person who debate the merits of a big engine. I can see that one
already. . . "You know, the more I think about it the better I like the
idea of a four banger in my Explorer. Anyone know how I could swap this
out?? My goal is to decrease the power as much as possible. . . "

And we'll run it without an exhaust manifold... That will be as loud as it

yeah! I'm going to go remove all of the exhaust stuff from my car right
now! I mean, yeah, its a small car with a four banger, but if I make it
loud people will think its fast! Anyone know how I could hook up a
microphone inside my engine compartment? I'm going to run it through an
amp with some subs! People will think I am SOOOO Fast! I'll get all the
trashy girls I can deal with! YES!

I also went out and got some red spray paint. Red cars are SOOOO much
faster than everything else, so I figured that I'd paint my car red.
Everyone will look at my car as say to themselves "Hey, he's got a loud
red car. He must be fast. It would be a waste of time to race him."
Anyone know where I can get some stickers that say things like, "powered
by Ferrari?" With those on it my car might go even faster!

All joking aside, the fact is that just because your truck is loud
doesn't mean its actually fast. It just means that your truck is loud.
Most people aren't staring at you with envy when you roll past sounding
like you drive a train. . . they're staring because they can't figure out
why you would waste your money making your truck loud. Changing the
exhaust on a Ranger doesn't change the fact that its a small truck; it
only changes the fact that it was a quiet small truck at one time. If you
want people to really look, go out and paint your truck bright orange or
neon green. At least people can look away then. . .

Tell us more about these headers. Difficult to install?? At times my
'98 Explorer seems a bit lathargic when some "real power" is needed
(like when I attempt to impress someone).

Ob "loud" commment: Of course if I really wanted to impress someone,
I'd get my 356 working and use the "blooey tube". That is another

They don't look too bad... Labor guide gives 2 hrs to replace the exhaust
manifolds. The headers hook up to the stock head pipes etc, so they aren't
any bigger than the stock manifolds. Looks like they have to be done from
underneath and thru the fender wells. Hopefully have them in a couple
weeks. Supposedly they have all the EGR fittings etc as well making them
50 state legal.

If you want more power quickly, have t=you though about NOS?

My 92 explorer hatch does not align with the roof of the truck. It is about
1/2" higher. There is no adjustment in the hinges. Any ideas?

Oh joy of joys, I get my Ranger at last on Wednesday. The Nissan is but
a distant memory. Anywho, a few Q's from the newbie:

1) Does the 1990 2.3 take the same PH8A equivelant filter all Fords do?

2) In 1996 the 2.3 went from 100 to 112 horsepower. Anyone know the
reason?

3) Front shocks are garbage...suggestions on replacement (4x2)? I like
'em stiff.

It may not be much, but it's faster than every other truck I've owned
except a '65 F100!

well i dunno about the other questions, but i swear by gabriel shocks for
everything i drive.. theyre better than monroe and reasonably priced.. My
trucks run in NYC and they take a daily beating between craters and loads i
put in them.. so for what its worth thats my opinion

Hi Bob,

No, peace is good here! With my Mother's car, father's Ranger, Sister's
Accord, and Father's Taurus I don't have a spot to put my baby bronco. So, I
go around the corner and park the truck on the side of the neighbor's house.
They don't seem to mind the spots on the ground either, from where I work on
it. (This weekend it's going to be double shock hoop mounts and traction
bars!!)

Sometimes, once in a while when my patience runs thin, I would like to scare
the neighbors but good, although I know that nothing good ever comes from
hate.

Particularly their chainsaw sounding japanese cars and their loud ghetto-rave
blasting noise... Rrrrggghhhh....

I had a friend (Who is now serving time in San Quetin for an unrelated
incident) who would run around with open headers everywhere and cops would
stop him every five blocks. Truck was a '72 body with a 350... Standard excuse
was that it was a farm truck and we needed gas, but couldn't find the gas
cans. Always worked.

I guess you had to be 14 and without a license to enjoy it. (Like he was while
driving!)

Wait, even better I have a friend whom I am working with to beef up a 66 stang.
We swapped out the 8" rear for a ford 9", and instralled a locker. Made the
brakes really tight and lockable, on all four wheel drum. The 289 would be tuned
just right and by this time could we have some fun. We would get going on the
three speed speed cruise-o-matic and then let it fly. You could go screaming
down the road, and then pull a *sharp* turn, locking up the brakes and whipping
the rear around. That could make a screech and a healthy black mark on the
road... That was high school fun and we did it. Never any at night, though if I
had known where some of the people whom I went to school with lived, I would
have been tempted!

This week we are replacing the front end of the car, and would like to do a 289
to Windsor swap. The engine swap is far into the future, but the front end work
needs to be done ASAP... There is so much play in it that the bright white is
dangerous to drive. I'm hoping the steering box isn't shot to heck, but we'll
see...
