Definitely... The less restriction in the tailpipe, the more sound
you'll have.

Ahem: I want more quiet!!!

I don't ever want to have your truck's noise pollution crammed down my
ears or vibrating my guts. In fact, neither do most other folks.
That's why we have laws requiring decent mufflers in most places.

I don't ever want to hear your vehicle. Ever. I hope you get it. You
share this planet with other people, and they deserve to have peace and
quiet in their daily lives.

Damn dude sorry but there are more of us out there who want noise. If you
want more quiet move your yuppie ass to the subburbs and invest in a pair of
ear plugs because you'll need it. I want to be able to pull up next to your
yuppie ass and have you be like damn that Explorer is lifted and god that
exahust is loud. I'm putting straight pipes on my Explorer this afternoon.

I have to lean towards the "quieter is better" side as well. A loud
exhaust doesn't necessarily mean your vehicle is fast, it just means its
loud. If you want a REALLY loud exhaust system just punch a couple of
holes in your pipes, or even better, you could crack your head pipe!
Maybe just let them completely rust out?!!! That would be SWEET. That's
why there are muffler shops all over the country. . . Ever hear of a
"sleeper?" In the racing world its a car that doesn't look fast (or have
a loud exhaust) but in actuality is. Personally I think it would be much
more impressive to have someone look at your "stock" Explorer, then see
your tailights when they realize its not completely stock after all. . .

Subject: FTE Small - Aerostar Sparkplugs

A question for you people with 3.0s and in general.

With my engine missing badly, I took my '92 Aerostar 3.0 into the shop,
where I was sold a set of wires (that I needed) and a set of plugs (that
I didn't). After having done the contortionist routine to replace my
cap & rotor, I was aching too badly to attempt any more ignition work,
so took it in. I got the car back a few hours later, and it runs great.

Now, about a year and 8,000 miles ago, I had a set of Autolite Platinum
(the "ordinary" grade) installed. This time, I asked for my old parts
back. One of my Autolite ignition wires was burned to a crisp about
halfway through. OK: cause for missing.

The old plugs tips, however, look outstanding: white-tan, gaps right on
spec, a tiny amount of black fluff on the threaded ends. I conclude
that these plugs are, in fact, in great condition and didn't need
replacement.

One curiosity though: three of the plug bodies are quite rusty, and have
a basic black gun-metal appearance. My brain says that this is simply
the wrong metal for a plug. Yeah, it looks sexy when new, but honestly,
I've never had Japanese plugs in the past that went rusty on the outside
like this. This looks like trouble to me: I have visions of rust seizing
and rust particles working onto the insulator, causing the spark to
ground out. Oh, the shop put in the exact same Autolite numbers that
they took out.

I read someplace a while back that the basic Autolite Platinum was a
junky plug, but that their newer, tonier, "Platinum Pro" (which I note....
