Subject: FTE Small - Copy letter from Ford UK about my Explorer....

Dear Mr Brownlee

Re; Explorer NIB 4318

Thank you for your letter dated August 10th, addressed to our Chairman &
Managing Director, Mr McAllister. He regrets thathe is unable to reply to
your letter personally, but has asked me to respond on his behalf.

We are sincerely sorry to learn of the difficulties you have experienced
with accident repairs on this vehicle, and note from our extensive case
file, that we have assisted where possible.

We are sorry that we are unable to offer you a vehicle exchange, since the
terms of the Ford Commitment Programme have not been met.

We understand that the vehicle has been repaired and an independent
inspection by the RAC commisioned by Polar Ford, has deemed the vehicle to
be of an acceptable standard. However, a further inspection by the Insurers,
Direct Line, engineer is planned for Monday 16th August, with you in
attendance.

We trust that matters will then be concluded to your satisfaction, but
regret that, since there are no outstanding Manufacturing issues, we cannot
involve ourselves further.

Your sincerely

Mrs Margaret Slocombe
Senior Advisor
Executive Liaison Office

For; 1990 B2, 2 wd, auto trans.
I've just replaced my second tailshaft housing on the A4LD tranny. This is the
one with the non-repairable CV joint driveshaft. This time I was stuck 250
miles from home. The driveshaft was shot, but I managed to find one at a junk
yard (how appropriate) for $160. A transmission shop had a used housing and
put in a new bushing and seal. Fortunately, because I kept adding fluid, I
didn't do any damage to the system.

A while back, there was a discussion about getting a driveshaft that has been
converted to normal u-joints. Would anyone that has info on this operation
please post the details?
I need info like: Who?, Where?, Web Site?, Phone?

TIA,
Harry

Has anyone purchased any OBDII scanners for their trucks? I was wondering
if they allow you to change the adjusts (IE timing fuel curves).

Thanks for any help....

None of them allow any changes. They monitor only.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. Have you had experience with the shudder/vibration I
described? If so, did fixing the U joints and driveshaft splined slip joints take
care of the problem?

Thanks -

Jerry

My first explorer (97 XLT V6) had the shudder and the dealer replaced the U
joints and lubed the splines. No more shudder.

Hi harry,

I just measured the distance between the flanges and had Santa Rosa Driveline here
in town make up one for me. It cost me $340 for one with three U joints in it,
called a "double cardigan". I needed it after I smoked the driveshaft and rear end
after installing a Duff three inch lift.
