burning dried sewage).

Its the gas you're buying. Some gas has a high sulfur content.
Last time this happened to me, I switched brands and it went
away within one tankful.

Me------------------------------------------------

OK! I'll do it. I've been using Arco 87 octane.

Two things puzzle me:
1. Where is this odor being emitted from?
2. How is it getting into the cabin?

The odor doesn't seem to smell like exhaust, and I haven't passed out
yet. Sure aggravates my allergies, though. I did notice it yesterday
about 1 minute after I shut off the motor, outside the Aerostar on the
right side.

BTW: There are a few oil refineries not too far from me where gasoline
is made. I smelled a very similar odor filling the air for miles
downwind of a refinery while driving one day. Before around 2 years
ago, I don't ever remember smelling this odor. I believe that it
coincides with the reformulation of gasoline that took place, possibly
involving the introduction of MBTE (?).

I found that I had to go to a small independent auto parts store that
had various types of bulbs that were not in bubble packs. The
replacement bulb is slightly smaller that what I took out. It is a
bulb that is also used in console display applications.

Me----------------------------------------------------------------

Tim, I have a hunch that our famous Ford radio lightbulb is a standard
electronic parts store item. Would you be so kind as to post here as
much info about the bulb as you can: what type of bulb is it? What kind
of base? Stock nos, any ID on the bulb, etc.?

>From what you (or other readers) provide, If I'm able to cross it from
my own info, I'll post it here, too. I've got to ask y'all because I've
never had mine open yet ('92 middle-of-the-line-of-three
cassette/AM/FM). And BTW, my display light works itermittantly; I
figure it is a poor (or corroded) contact. Or a cheap OEM bulb from Hong
Kong.

I wrote about the cracked heads for the 2.9 V6 and requested solutions
and I wanted to thank everyone for their helpful info. I also read the
piece at Kunz Korner about the 4.0 heads so I don't think I'll do that.
However, World Products sounds like the way to go except that I've heard
they don't deal with individuals, only companies such as machine shops
or auto repair shops can deal with them. If any one has any info on who
exactly I can go through to get in touch with them I would appreciate
it.

Richard:

It's a #74 (per another list member) or referred to as part #936 in a
Cougar/Thunderbird specification guide as reported in the original
article in MM. The #74 is commonly available at good auto parts
stores. It's a plug in base similar side clearance or newer dash
lights only smaller. There was no ID on my original bulb; only
blackness.
