Subject: FTE Small - 5 Speed, poor downshifting

I have a 98 3 liter with the 5 speed (should have gone with the auto) and
have a question:

Downshifting into 2nd or 1st can be very difficult when the tranny is cold.
Getting on the highway on a curving uphill onramp today (20 deg) when I went
to shift down to 2nd to accelerate, I dropped 10 mph before I was able to
get it into 2nd gear. 1st from 2nd can be even worse when cold. I already
brought it in once for this when it was warmer. At the time I was shifting
into neutral and coasting to a stop at lights. Shifting into first when the
light turned green could be tough. I was told I need to shift down through
the gears to synchronise the gears. The service person told me their truck
(97) did this also, and it was normal. Tuesday the 29th I will bring it in
and test drive it with the tech. Any idea's ? The only thing I have done was
to put Mobile 1 ATF in, but this didn't help.

Thanks

Ok, here's a question for ya who know anything about it...my gauge
always says its cold. BUT, it does put out cold air. I flushed the
radiator and replaced the fluid, but it didnt achieve much. Also, my oil
pressure gauge swings from normal to low while i'm driving and jumps
back up after a few seconds. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Thanx
in advance...

I'd push a Ford before I drove a Chevy, but I don't need to.

Subject: FTE Small - Ranger and Aerostar seat questions

I have two questions regarding seats:

1. Will Explorer seats exchange with Ranger seats? I am looking at getting
rid of the spit bench in my 91 Ranger Xtracab and replacing it with buckets,
possibly leather from an Explorer.

2. If anyone out there has an Aerostar with captains chairs in the 2nd row, I
would like to know how they mount. Are they individually removable? Are they
basically front seats with an adapter plate? I have a bench and want to get a
pair of captains chairs (the kids are starting to fight)...

Thanks!
Mark Biederbeck

Most of the time while your slowing to a stop and down shifting the gears and
you get to second and it just doesn't wanna go in while you have the clutch
depressed rev the engine just a little and try to pop it into gear as the rpms
are falling that seems to work for me best....ding
