I own (if you forgot) a 91 Ranger XLT. I assume it has the stock stereo system, so someone here must know what I mean. Both of my front speakers (which were the only speakers when I bought the truck) are blown. I can replace them myself, no problem. The problem is getting TO them. Do I need to remove the whole freakin' door panel to get to them? The speaker is located on the bottom of the door inside the little storage pocket. I thought the grille covering the speaker would just come off by itself, but I can't get it off. I am very reluctant to remove the whole panel because I don't want to mess with putting the thing back on. If you have any suggestions, lemmie hear! Thanx. - - -- Joe >>>>>>> Yes, you do have to take the door panel off. It isn't as hard as it sounds. Even I did it. But the replacement speaker that I bought wouldn't fit there so I mounted it behind the seat. Worked real well. Of course, then I had to put the door panel back on. I put my pulley puller tool in it and cranked down until the pulley was out of shape. Now I need another pulley, good thing I have a spare motor with power steering pump. The end of the shaft has a hex head like an Allen wrench is used but the Chilton manual says nothing about it. Anyone removed one before? Is mine just stuck on from years of desert blasting? They aren't treaded on are they? Thank you in advance, Robert == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Nov 1998 20:15:40 -0500 From: Barry Nestor Subject: FTE Small - NHTSA Campaign Number: 96V024000 regarding power assist brake boo ster I've got a question regarding the attached Explorer recall. It supposedly only applies to those California counties listed, does anyone know why? Someone else has had to question this or at least consider it before now. I haven't asked Ford yet, I just thought I'd ask here first. Regards, Barry Description of Recall Campaign: THE STUDS WHICH ATTACH THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE POWER BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER ASSEMBLY CAN DEVELOP STRESS CORROSION CRACKING AFTER BEING OPERATED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LOCATION. IF A CRACK OCCURS, IT COULD RESULT IN ONE OR BOTH STUDS FRACTURING. THE MASTER CYLINDER COULD THEN SEPARATE FROM THE VACUUM BOOSTER, WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, PREVENTING THE SERVICE BRAKES FROM ACTIVATING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT. DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE POWER BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. SYSTEM: BRAKES; POWER ASSIST; PRIMARY; BOOSTER. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MULTI-PURPOSE VEHICLES AND LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS ORIGINALLY SOLD OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA COUNTIES OF LOS ANGELES, ORANGE, SAN BERNADINO, SAN DIEGO, RIVERSIDE, VENTURA, SANTA BARBARA, SAN LUIS OBISPO, IMPERIAL, AND KERN. NOTE: OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673 OR MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500. If they are like my '93, then yes, you have to take th entire door panel off. The door handle has a cover that comes off. Use a T15 Torx screwdriver to remove the handle. The take the door panel off. The speaker is held in by 4 screws. Everything goes back together in reverse.
