Subject: FTE Small - Towing Capacity Help

Greets... have a 1998 Ranger XLT 2.5 2wd Standard Cab with the short bed,
and want to know what my towing capacity is. Seems I can't find the curb
weight anywhere and can't seem to get a good answer as to how much I can
tow or have in the truck. Basically what I need to know is, what is the
total weight I can haul in the bed, the total weight I can tow, and a
combination of the two (i.e. I can haul 1000lbs but can tow 2,000 etc).

Thanks in advance. This is all new to me. >>

The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and the Gross Combined Weight Rating
(GCWR) should be listed on a plate on the driver door jam.
To determine how much you can carry or tow, you need to find out how much the
truck weighs, ready to go.
Take it to a place that has a vehicle scale, and have it weighed, with you in
it, and full of gas (and whatever else you normally carry).
Subtract this figure from the GVWR, and the result is how much you can carry.
Subtract the same figure from the GCWR, and that's how much you can tow.
Without knowing how much your truck weighs (by actually weighing it), there's
no way you can know the other figures, despite what the dealer says, or what
anyone else says. You *MUST* weigh the truck first. The listed curb weight
does not take into account a full tank of gas, nor a driver or any passengers,
nor any other normal cargo (like that 300 lb. tool box you carry for
emergencies ;-)), nor any optional equipment or equipment added after
purchase.
This was all new to us, too, once.

I posted the message originally. That could be the problem on my truck as well,
but I doubt they could do much about it. It probably doesn't help that the my
passenger door was ripped open by the cast iron rear bumper of our F-150. That
door was replaced. I have vent visors on there too, so I ruled out it being the
side windows not sealing good. I figured it was the windshiled or the doors.

I haven't heard the brakes squeaking much anymore. I have 15k on there and I"ve
heard it for the past few thousand miles - but not in the beginning.

The vibration isn't something I've encountered. I've got the 235's on the 16"
wheel. 80 mph is pretty normal for my ride home here in Michigan, and yesterday
I climbed up to 90-95 and is was as smooth as 60 mph. What a truck! It still
wanted to keep going!

Dear (person who gets this letter),

Ok, I know this is going to sound stupid if you have no idea what I'm
talking about. Please bear
with me. On CMT, they mentioned a contest that Ford is putting on. I
think you write different lyrics to Alan Jackson's song, and if yours
gets picked you win something. Well, seeing how you guys are Ford
fanatics, not that I'm not, I was wondering if you happened to know
something about it. Where you send the lyrics, what you win, if its
even still on. Now, I don't know if I sent this to the right spot, if
not please forwarded to someone who might know.
I've already tried to contact CMT, and they are no help AT ALL. Not
that I hold that against them. Ok, anyway, I would really appreciate
your help, if you know anything.

Thanx a bunch,

Yours Truly,

Becky
