For me anyway. My '96 V6 started pinging at 70,000 miles. I replaced the plugs, and that helped some. I went to 89 octane gasoline, and it has stopped. Mine only did it on hills, and we have some bad ones here along the Mississippi in Wisconsin. But only after the speedometer read 70K. Ron Trampe pinging is there. It is not as bad as before, and it goes away when I shut the air conditioner off. What do you think? Should I be happy that things are much better than before, or is there still a "fixable" problem? Can you give me any help with a diagnosis from the info that I have given here? I really appreciate the help. Thanks, Mel>>>>>>> == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 17:53:09 +0000 From: Garr&Pam Subject: Re: FTE Small - Ranger Pinging Again, its back to the octane rating. Have yuou had your upper and lower intake cleaned. How about fuel injectors, throttle body? Did you try changing O2 sensor, how about having the EGR system cleaned? Did you check the gap on the new plugs? How about the knock sensor? Different gas stations? There seems to be more of a problem with 3.0 than either the 2.3 or the 4.0! Maybe its that the 4.0 and 2.3 are designed to produce power(torque, what little torque 2.3 has it comes under 2500rpms) during low rpms and 3.0(tauras, tempo) being that its designed for a car produces its power at a higher rpm so in the lower rpms it struggles a little under 2500 rpms or so! Something to think about. Please no flames just an opinion! Just another thought! I was wondering if anyone had some insight on this problem. I have a 92 Explorer Sport, man trans, 2WD and for some odd reason both the Brake and The Rear-Antilock light comes on. It happens intermittinely, usually about 5-10 min after I start my car. Sometimes right when I start my car. But once it goes on it doesn't go off unless you restart the car. It doesn't seem to adversely affect the vehicle. Could it possibly be a short?!? I have no clue, any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance >--Chris == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 10:07:51 -0700 From: Richard Salitra Subject: FTE Small - sidestep bars for '98 Ranger Since Smittybuilt hasn't yet come out with anything for a '98 Ranger, I looked elsewhere & found that Rhino makes what looks to be a comparable product. Their new Sumatra Series 4000 is frame mounted. The part # for a '98 extended cab is 4168B (black) and 4168C (chrome). I'm wondering if anybody has put these on their truck and what they think of them? Are they really as comparable as they look? - I've only seen them in a catalog. Also, since I'm not confident about any possible drilling to put sidebars on, I'm thinking of having a shop put them on for me. I was quoted $100 for this, $50/hours and 1 hours per side. Is that reasonable? I appreciate any possible feedback. thanks. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 03:07:11 -0400 (EDT) From: tarmy Subject: Re: FTE Small - Both Brake and Rear-AntiLock Lights come on. there is a problem with your antilock brakes. light must stay onto retrive code from system the part that usely goes bad is called a rabs valve and costs about $250.00 dealer item only. to pull code from system have engine running and abs light on. go under dash on drivers side and look for a gray connector taped to the wiring harness and ground that connector for about 1-2 sec and then count the number of flashes such as - --- 1 sec pause --- and then 2-4 sec pause. and continues flashing the same or another this puts the abs module in a test function the number of flashes indicate for example above would be code 33. pull the code and i can tell you what the code means. the connector you are looking for is a single black wire with a orange stripe. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 03:08:34 -0400 (EDT) From: tarmy Subject: Re: FTE Small - pinging the 3.0 has a timing chain the 2.3 has the timing belt. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ End of small-list-digest V2 #256 ******************************** +- Ford Truck Enthusiasts - Ranger, Explorer, Bronco 2 and Aerostar --+ ....
