Any help would be appreciated.

I am having trouble getting an alarm installed in my 98 Ranger. The alarm I
have(Diablo II) is repeatedly triggered by the door sensors in the truck.
My technician tells me that the 98 Ranger has door switches deep inside each
door instead of on the outside of the door like most vehicles and this may
be causing it to trigger.

Has anyone else had trouble with their alarm? If not, what kind do you
have? I'm taking the truck back for the 5th time today to fix this problem.
I'm very tired of this &*^%^&%!

There has to be a way to install an auto alarm in this truck, right???
Someone has told me that maybe by disconnecting the alarm from the door
sensors and connecting it to the Dome Light, it might alleviate this problem.

Please help.

Thanks.
Alan Wilson

Alan, I have a DEI (mfg. of Viper, I believe) alarm system in my '97 Ranger.
The system is tied into the dome light circuit already. The factory door
switches are built into the door lock latches, so ANY time the dome light
would come on if the alarm is armed, it would trigger the alarm. Another
thing that turns the dome lights on is pulling on the driver's door outside
handle. If somebody pulls the handle when you are not looking, the alarm
will trigger! I would Imagine that they did not make any changes to the dome
light circuits from '97 to '98. Mine is an XLT standard cab. I don't know if
the outside handle turning on the dome light is standard for the whole
Ranger line, though. My first guess would be somebody is "testing to see if
your doors are locked". The dome light stays on for a short time after
pulling the outside handle until the timer times out. With the alarm
unarmed, and the doors all closed, pull the outside drivers door handle and
see if this applies to your truck; if it does, it is something to look into.

Good luck,

Bob
