FTE Small - Moving on... ======================================================================= ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 4 Aug 1998 12:35:02 -0500 From: "Mike Nassour" Subject: FTE Small - The continuing transmission problems.... As one who has just had an 92 Explorer tranny go at 80K (big surprise, huh ), the new unit has apparently gone bad in only 5K! The shop (which is replacing it under warranty) says that the "woefully small" Ford tranny cooler at the radiator apparently failed, and they now recommend an aftermarket replacement (with about ten times the cooling area) installed for an additional $150 or so. Sounds reasonable to me, but I thought I'd get the opinions of the list before I sunk any more $$$$ into this beast. Thanks! Mike Nassour == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 11:25:19 -0800 From: Thom Cheney Subject: FTE Small - aux. gas tanks I'm interested in adding a smallish (10 gal. or so) auxiliary gas tank to my '97 Ranger. Has anyone made this addition? Thom Cheney Portland, OR == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 11:48:01 -0700 From: Richard Subject: FTE Small - Head Gaskets/Valve Job: '92 Aerostar w. 3.0 Advice please: The job of replacing the head gaskets in my '92 Aerostar, 3.0 engine, is almost finished. It's getting a valve job at the same time, radiator cleaned out, new head bolts, water pump, thermostat, and belts. I'd like some advice: any special breakin instructions? Should the head bolts be re-tightened after awhile (when?)? Anything else? The van has 71,000 on it, and lived in San Jose, CA, before I bought it. The cooling system had been filled with the local hard water. The coolant was changed according to Ford's instructions. Therefore, I acquired a vehicle with a rusty cooling system (this paragraph is a caution to the rest of you). This vehicle has both front and rear heat/AC units, and came with a factory towing package. I live in a hilly area and it gets hot. Thanks Richard - -- !! Benguerel" Subject: FTE Small - Rear end clunk? All this talk of rear end noises has me curious! Is it a clunk or a pink? My truck has been back twice now for the same symptoms from the rear end/driveline. First it was the universal yoke bolts and the transmission output shaft yoke, then the rear end yoke. Both fixes were a R&R with Loctite used on the nuts/bolts. Rear end shift and spring wrap sound scary to me, especially for a stock truck Andre E. Forwarded for: Mike Krause I will soon be moving to California in about a week from Texas. I will have to uns*bscribe to this service due to the fact that I do not have my own computer yet and am not sure if I will have access to one when I'm out there. I have some questions for everyone about my trip out there and about Ca. 1) I'm making a list of things to do to get my '91 Explorer ready for the trip. I'm towing a 6'x12' Uhaul and need some insight on what I can do to prevent any problems. I'm doing the following: changing the oil and filter, the air filter, the PCV valve, the drivebelt, the brakes and getting the tires balanced. Anything else needed to be done. 2) Anyone who lives in the San Diego area, specifically La Jolla, that's where I'm moving. Any performance shops out there or anyone of you out there as well?? I know like 2 people and that's not a lot. Thanks for all that everyone's done for me and all the advise on the pursuit to make my Explorer last longer and run better. Hopefully I'll see you all again.... To access the rest of this feature you must be a logged in Registered User Of Ford Truck Enthusiasts
