He seemed to think that tightening the bolts was >actually dangerous and the dealer should have replaced them instead. ... If u-bolts loosen up on a new vehicle then they should just be tightened up as they probably weren't checked at Pre-Delivery and were loose from the factory. If after being tightened once, they loosen up again, replace them. U-Bolts are not expensive and if they loosen up after being tightened that means that they are stretching and eventually could break. Stretching could be caused by bad metal in the u-bolts or someone put too big an impact on them the first time and overtightened them, stretching the threads. It could also be a problem with the nuts on the u-bolts but it should be worth it to mess with. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jul 1998 12:28:18 -0400 From: "Mark Canning" Subject: Re: FTE Small - Aftermarket camshafts for 2.8 L Try Competition Cams at www.compcams.com. They have a program (camquest, I think)that you can download that asks you questions about the way the car is driven, engine size, auto or manual trans, gear ratios, tire size, carbs or Fuel injection, etc then gives you their recommended cam with all the specs for duration, lift overlap, etc. for both intake and exhaust so that even if you don't buy their cam you can atleast compare the specs with anyone elses. I looked a cam up for my 85 Bronco II 2.8 L and they have at least 5 different grinds from OEM replacement, Steet/Strip, RV types to some pretty long duration, probably won't idle type, performance cams for circle track applications. The program works for any size engine they support, 2.8 2.9, 3.0, 4.0, 302, 351etc fords, chevys and chrysler products. >Date: Thu, 30 Jul 1998 16:09:25 +0000 >From: Garr&Pam >Subject: Re: FTE Small - Aftermarket camshafts for 2.8 L > >Alan Gustafson wrote: >> >> Next month I'll be pulling the 2.8L engine out of an 85 Ranger 4x4 that >> I recently acquired, in order to do a light overhaul.
