I know that I should have bought the 6 cyl., but as long as I am stuck with the 4 cyl., what can I do to get some more power? Does anyone know if there is a supercharger or turbocharger kit available for this engine (with all plumbing and brackets)? What about computer chips? Exhaust system mods? Please let me know what has been done in this area, and what you think of the results. Thanks, Russell == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1998 16:34:39 -0800 From: Brad Allerheiligen Subject: FTE Small - 4.0l Bolt-ons Well it time for more mods, and I want to do the Mass Air, Throttle Body, and K&N open element kit deal, but was wondering who has the best product? Plus should I try and keep my stockers just in case? Also I already have BBK headers, and a Flowmaster muffler, will either of these matter in the size of Mass Air/Throttle Body I purchase? - -Brad- == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1998 14:41:35 -0700 From: "Alan Wilson" Subject: FTE Small - Getting better mileage and power... I have been thinking about ways of getting more boost out of my 3.0 V6 98 Ranger. I like the stock setup as is but I'm always looking for ways to improve things about it. My question is: Does getting a K&N air filter really help? What about their other products(superchargers or something). What about getting a new exhast system. I know this can be a couple of hundred of dollars but what effects would I expect to see if I installed one and is it very difficult to install. Thanks for your help! So far they have done a few little changes and got some pretty good results.....They have changed the entire exhaust system headers a new free flow cat and a nice cat back system You can get that from borla dynomax flowmaster. They also have changed there computer chip and bigger fuel injectors ...You can also do little things like remove your belt driven fan and put in a electric fan change to a k&n air filter things to this nature and you should be able to pep up your little four banger pretty nicely..........ding060297 == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Aug 1998 00:38:22 EDT From: MEB8100 Subject: FTE Small - Aerostar suspension improvments A while back I posed some questions asking if anyone had made any sucessful suspension mod's to Aerostars. I didn't get any replies back except a few asking that, if I did, let them know how it worked out. I just recently installed KYB gas shocks and an Addco rear anti-sway bar. Big big BIG improvement! The ride is much more controlled and firm without being harsh and much less roll in corners. Haven't tested at full load yet but I expect it to be much better. Shock installation was 1-2 hours and rear bar about 1 hour (some drilling). The improvements are so good that the weak link is now the tires (Toyo Z800's). These will probably be replaced with some BF Goodrich T/A's or similar. Hey, it's not a race car but for $240 I made some excellent improvements to what a lot of you know is the best minivan out there if you want room and vroom. If anyone has any advice on tires or custom wheels, let me know. Also, saw some questions recently about spark plug access, maybe Rangers? I changed these in about 1 hour. Plugs had 60K and electrodes definitely worn. I used Autolites. Best way to acess plugs is through the wheel wells.
