Must have full power and be in exc to mint shape, also they must tilt forward to like in a two door car. Thanks Bryan Rangerstx ______________________________________________________ == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 07:58:24 +0000 From: Garr&Pam Subject: Re: FTE Small - Engine Pinging What would cause my '91 Explorer to ping when the accelerator is bottomed out? I thought there was some type of sensor for that? Its more prominent in the hot weather (also, I'm at a high altitude -- 4200). I've replaced just about all the sensors due to another problem in the past (that turned out to be an intermittent connection of the mass air flow sensor) and don't remember seeing one for the "pinging". Any suggestions? Check your timing. Maybe you have carbon build up also...check into having your throttle body and injectors cleaned. You can try running high octane gas and seee if that helps. I recently overhauled the tranny on my '86 ranger XL 4x4. After complete reinstallation when I went to insert the clutch line into the slave cylinder I find that it needs to have a clip of some sort. My question is this, Where does the clip go? Try as I may I cannot determine its location. Try as I may I cannot > determine its location. The clip goes around the hydraulic line and through a hole in the bell housing. Tough to see it and is mostly a "feel" installation. The hole is at the top of the tranny and on the driver side. Let me know how your rebuild holds up. I didn't fair so well. The gear on the counter shaft failed after a few thousand miles and I had to redo it while on vacation. That really sucked. Hope yours does better Good luck! If so then you might have a computer problem. Just cause you can't adjust doesn't mean it that its functioning properly! Benguerel" Subject: FTE Small - Big trucks, Spark Plugs and Wires In response to the post by John Cassis: It might have been a Centurion, they make huge custom Ford trucks. They build one model on the F-700 chassis. I'm not sure were there located. I could not find them on the web. I've seen them before at local SCCA races. One guy has a white F-700 that appears to have a stretched sleeper cab on it with all the trimmings of a motor home and a 35 foot box trailer! And in regards to the post about plugs and wires: I personally think Bosch Platinum plugs suck! Sure, you don't have to change them for 100K miles, but spark plugs are cheap and what's a couple hours of wrenching? The problem with Platinum's are the center electrode. The insulator shoulder it too high in relation to the electrode length. The plugs tend to foul and don't "clean out" very easy leading to misfires. In racing, we had excellent result with Nippendenso & NGK plugs. Both use a "U" groove electrode and provide a wide spark. I have also heard good things about the Champion Truck Plug. For plug wires you should buy the most expensive one you can afford. Bosch are excellent. For a really cool set of plug wires check out I need to do my 30K tune up on my truck this weekend so I'll let you know how it goes! Andre E. The volume will drop slightly (usually for a few seconds) and then go back to normal. It seems to drop at all the speakers not just one side or front/back. The radio illumination does not dim or change when this happens. The problem is intermittent. Some days are better than others. It is not a particular radio station, geographic location, speed, or weather related incident. It has happened no matter where I have been driving. The deck has been removed since this problem started for an unrelated repair, so the wiring harness and antenna have been removed and reconnected. The problem was unaffected by this. Any ideas?? You probably have a seperate amp in that truck, located in the pass. side kick panel. It could be the radio itself or that. From past experience with all factory parts, either one is probably at least $400 to buy new. You would probably just be better off getting an aftermarket radio installed, it will be of better quality and sound better. You can get a varity of good aftermarker radios installed for way less then $400 if you just want a tape deck, or around $400 for a good cd player. They can be much more expensive then that, depending on what models you pick, but they are good starting prices for quality radios. I have a Pioneer CD player in my Ranger and it sounds great, I have a more expensive model because i installed a complete aftermarket system (radio, speakers, amp, subs, etc.) and wanted features that arent available on the less expensive radios, but most people dont need to spend that much for features they wont use. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 23:53:04 EDT From: Ding060297 Subject: Re: FTE Small - plug wires I've had not luck with split fire plugs in the past on fuel injection cars ....On carburated cars thats a different story it had a little more pep to it especially betweeen shifts...as for there wires i have no personal experience with em.....Bosch plat's are the way to go now adays == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 23:51:15 EDT From: Ding060297 Subject: Re: FTE Small - Engine Pinging I had a 92 with the same problem it would ping and my fix was to use better gas throw some super in it and after that drop down to plus and then you can mix it up with regular every now and then and also try dumping in some injection cleaner every month or two.... == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 23:58:51 EDT From: Ding060297 Subject: FTE Small - Re:performance upgrades for the 96 explorer w/5.0v8 Does anyone have any experience with the 5.0 in the explorer with any performance upgrades .....What works and what doesn't any info would be cool...........chris ding060297 chips..exhuast...bigger throttle body...supercharger..... == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Aug 1998 00:01:03 EDT From: Ding060297 Subject: FTE Small - Re: allwheel drive system in explorer Does anyone have any problems with there 96 or newer explorers with the v8 and the all wheel drive system.....Is this system reliable and hold up to the engines 215 hp and 288 lbs of torque..I just bought one and mine seeems to....
