I think when he mentioned camping we all imagined a MUCH larger trailer. But this 1500 is just a guesstimate- weighing might still be in order. keith On Fri, 17 Jul 1998, cassis wrote: > Not to start a flame war but if its only 1500lbs I realy dont think trailer > brakes are nessesary. I'm stumnped. I'm trying to figure out where my radiator coolant is going. I've added about a half gallon and I only have 8K on the odometer. I fill the resevior up to and sometimes past the fill line, and a week later, it's DRY. Anybody else experienced this? The past three times I've checked it, I found a dry reservior. 4.0 owners, keep an eye on this! I'd just like some input before taking it in for repairs (if needed.) Right not I have to wait for the 96 Explorer to get out of the shop first. There was a ticking sound that was getting pretty annoying, and the check engine light finally came on so I had to bring it in. They said some canister had to be replaced, but I'm not sure exactly what. I'll probably find that out today when I pick it up. But I do see some of your point. But I just dont agree totaly. If you have the excess cash for trailer brakes on light trailer thats great I too have seen some situations where they could have helped. But the bottom line is when towing you must drive a little more defensive than the usual. Make damn shure you have more than normal following distince between you and the car in front, and dont make sudden - panic type moves. Like dont slam on the brakes. Slow the rig down but dont lock the tires up. To me it just takes some common sense and careful driving. And If you have a trailer that is heavy - say 2000lbs or more well I can see getting brakes on it but on the light weight trailers I just cant see it. I can guess that 1500 lbs. is approximately 1/2 the weight of a Bronco ll. I can guess also the brakes and short wheel base on the Bronco ll were not designed for towing. I do know that trailer brakes make a much safer trip. Please forgive if this seem like a flame. I have driven nearly a million miles and have see several "light" trailers with no brakes wrapped around the towing vehicle or maybe the it was the vehicle the towing person was trying to miss. I have seen boats and trailers in the trees on the side of the road. With people scratching their heads and wondering "how did that happen." When the trailer breaks loose, brakes come on automatically. Most of these could have been prevented by brakes on the trailer. I myself, was exceptionally lucky that the trailer did not try to mate with my truck or come around and try to kiss the front end. John, one more last comment, please I wish to introduce a bit of levity here, so (-: (-; :-) But, How much does 1500lbs weigh when trying to stop it at 60 miles per hour? I use it every month or so. They recommend using the cleaner first, but I don't and have never had any problem. If your seats are dirty, you may want to use the cleaner first. I even use this stuff on my leather sofa and the padded dash in my wife's car. No, I do not work for Tanners, I just like the stuff. - ---"Richard J. Wilson" wrote: > > Hey all..
