Check out the digest from about amonth ago. This was covered in great
detail at that time. As I remember it involved bending a coat hanger into a
U
shape and inserting it in the holes on the face plate. (Or go buy the tool
.)
Evidently the coat hanger releases the little hold its on the inside and
the
stereo comes right out.

He's right. The tool is available at your local Walmart for about 4 bucks,
or you can bend an 8" piece of coat hanger into a U shape. Make 2, and
push them into the faceplate on both sides, then just pull that puppy out.
I just put a CD in my 94 and that's the way I did it.

One question: Does the engine actually speed-up or does the tach SAY that it speeds-up? My truck has the same problem. During the cold months (Sept-May here) My tach will read 1000 to 1500 rpm's more than the actual engine speed all the time. Occasionally it will jump up and down if I tap it or hit a big pothole, but the KEY here is that the engine is not actually changing speed, just the tach. So I showed it to a dealer and they said they could replace it for about $100. I haven't bothered fixing it yet because I shift by "feel" not the tach. Hope this helps.

I have lurked long enough. I am interested in finding out more about the
'94 Explorer 4x4 XLT I bought used, recently. Where can I get an
owner's manual for this vehicle? I would like to learn as much as
possible about the 4 wheel drive option as well as the engine and
maintenance. I am very pleased with it so far, and want to do some

I purchased a set of Miata leather buckets (in perfect condition) at a
you wrench-it auto salvage. The deal was all you could carry for $25,
you should have seen the look on they're face, I don't think they
realized they had them. Anyway, the seats fit the stock Ranger rails
without too much modification. Good Luck.

me. without the restrictor (actually called venturi's , i have one sitting
on my desk; its the second one I was supposed to put in) the muffler is a
straight through.

Ok...I spoke with my service rep today...at noon, they finally got in the
redesigned slave cylinder (the one with the new lip seal) and said they
should have it ready this afternoon...3 hours later, he called me and told
me I was getting a new pressure plate too, but it wouldn't be in 'til
tomorrow morning (they seem to feel that the pressure plates have an
adverse effect on the hyrolic clutch system)...we'll see what other parts
get swapped out tomorrow...heck, replace the whole transmission if it'll
keep working afterwords...

I actually park my truck in a garage as we speak. That's why I still have the
little magnet mount(up on the hood). I know I will have to unscrew them if I
change to the mirror mounts because I only have an inch and a half clearance
from roof to bottom of the door :-) It occurred to me to make a custom
bracket so they would "fold" down by the door, alowing me to fit in the garage
without unscrewing them every day. Don't know what exactly I'll do, that's
why I still have the magnet. Oh, how I long to have a fifteen foot high garage
:-)

Thanks for the info. I actually have heard the stories about the cherry bomb.
I don't want it that loud, but I would prefer to have a free flow to reduce
some back pressure. Not to lower it enough like with headers or anything, I'm
not looking for speed, I want the torque. Have I been mis-informed about
free-flow lowering back pressure and increasing torque, or would it be
something to put on and be worth the time? As of now, I have stock manifolds,
stock cat converter, and an old crappy muffler with flexible exhaust pipe. I
originally planned to keep the stock from engine to cat, but then going with
free-flow muffler and 3" pipe. Would that do the trick for better off-road
driving, as well as daily driver? Any idea's?

Yeah, a good flowmaster or turbo muffler should do fine for you, you don't
want to get into specialty stuff like the cherry bomb, it should be renamed
the "cop magnet" muffler.

as far as it being worth the time, that depends, mine cost $250 (you'll
never find a system like mine, a borla, at this price again) and took like
6 hours to put on (actually 5 out of that was getting the old one off) and
I could notice a difference in power - I have a 4.01L (not the new dohc).
did you say you have a 2.9, I don't know how much of a difference you'll
feel if that is the case becuase, lets face it, there can't really be all
that much back pressure from that ; if your current system is 2" or more I
don't know if I would mess with a system, just get a good muffler put on
(flowmaster is probably best for money, I personally love borla but they
cost more and I am biased) becuase the muffler is the main culpret here.

reducing back pressure will help, I don't know if spending $$ on anything
more than a good muffler would matter, you might talk to a shop and see
what they think, dont expect huge gains if you have a 2.9 though. I think
a 3" pipe would be overkill (even on my car) it is actually bigger than
dual 2" pipes and muffler shops hate trying to bend 3" pipe. Just consider
how much small gains in power are worth to you and compare that to the
cost. PS power chips are a waste on a stock engine anyone who says they
can feel the diff. either has a larger than 4.0 engine or a really suped up....
