Picked up my 98 Ranger Friday. Love it! That new 5 Speed Auto is smooth as silk in the shifts, yet really responsive when you step on it. The 235's don't look too bad because they ride on 16" rims, and I've always loved the flashy chrome tri-spokes. The only downfall, is the everybody says it's "cute." Dammit! If I wanted cute, I wouldn't have bought a 4x4 Off Road! I still think it looks rugged though. I just can't park next to the F-150. "Papa" put's the "little one" to shame! I'm happy though! Frazer" Subject: Bought a Ranger, have a few Q's Hi guys & gals- I just bought a '95 Ranger XLT supercab with the 4.0L V6. So far, I love it. Just a couple of questions: - What's the horsepower rating on the 4.0L? People have asked, and I don't know. - I just calculated my mileage for the first time and got 15.7 MPG with about 80% city driving. Sound normal? I was hoping for better, but it *is* a truck and it was alcohol-laden winter gas. (Unavoidable in northern Ohio) How much does a tonneau cover help mileage? - I recently tried some quick stops on a wet, slushy parking lot but I didn't feel pulsation in the pedal that would tell me the rear ABS was kicking in. Is that just the way it is since it's a rear-only setup? How can I tell if the ABS activates? Thanks in advance... - -Patrick ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Feb 1998 13:47:58 -0600 (CST) From: Diana Slyter Subject: Re: your mail Show a little pride in your Ranger, which at least looks like a truck, unlike the F150! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- dianas __ __ ____ ___ ___ ____ dianas / / \ / / / / /__ / \/ /___ /------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Mon, 9 Feb 1998, EI - Michael Ioco wrote: > > Got the new Ride! > > Picked up my 98 Ranger Friday. The F-150 is the sweetest looking truck out there! It looks like a truck and rides like a truck. That is a touch that the Ranger and some of the competition has ditched. There IS a reason that the F-150 is still the best selling vehicle on the planet! I have plenty of pride in my ranger, and even more in the F-150. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Feb 1998 16:17:13 -0500 From: "Bryce" Subject: Re: Bought a Ranger, have a few Q's > From: Patrick M. My '97 4.0L is rated 160hp assume that the '95 is similar (though at one point, I recall, the 4.0L made a hp jump from some kind of design change...anybody know the what and when of this??) > > - I just calculated my mileage for the first time and got 15.7 MPG with > about 80% city driving. (Unavoidable in > northern Ohio) How much does a tonneau cover help mileage? on my worst days, I get about 17mpg with Atlanta rush hour traffic for 22 miles to work and usually a 70-80mph run home. I normally get 19-20 with 87 octane gas. This is in a '97 Ranger XLT 4x4 SuperCab with a 4.oL v6, 5 sp manual trans, 3.73:1 gears and 265/75R15 tires. I guess I should be thankful, since everyone else I talk to say that they are much lower in similar setups...but then again if I wanted gas milage, I'd have gotten a Festiva or a bicycle. > > - I recently tried some quick stops on a wet, slushy parking lot but I > didn't feel pulsation in the pedal that would tell me the rear ABS was > kicking in. I've felt my rear anti-locks come on with a little bit of pulsation, but it could have been the road too... HOPE OK. I'VE GOT A QUESTION ABOUT TIMING THE BRONCO II('86 2.9EFI). HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP. I READ ON A TECH. BOARD THAT INCREASING THE BTDC (LIKE FROM THE FACTORY 10* TO 14*) INCREASES THE TORQUE WHILE RETARDING THE ADVANCE INCREASES THE TOP END. TO ME THAT SEEMS BACKWARDS. WHAT DO YOU THINK? I ALSO READ THAT THE COMPUTER HAS A KNOCK RETARD FUNCTION. SO THAT ADJUSTING THE TIMING PROBABLY WILL NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. AGAIN, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? I'M GETTING 30X9.50S IN TWO WEEKS, SO I WANT TO BUMP UP THE TORQUE WHERE I CAN.
