I'm buying my first house, so the truck has to go. Green/tan leather 83K, AT, cd player, etc. $8500 firm for quick sale. If anyone is interested and wants more details, you can email me directly. The truck is located in Indy. Thanks, Jason ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 06:42:03 PDT From: "Bryan Snyder" Subject: STX package The STX package is basically an off road sport package. More graphics and other trinkits than heavier duty parts. I have one. I like the STX package better than the other packages because it's a little more sporty and has nice graphics package. A word to the wise if you EVER plan on a repaint or dent up your truck DONT get graphics that take up the whole truck! Mine did and what a pain in the butt! New graphics cost $330 and 4 hours of labor by the paint shop would have been charged to remove them! I spent $30 on 3M auto decal remover and 5 hours of my own time to take them off! NEVER again! :) ______________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 09:57:39 -0400 From: qzl0st Subject: Re: STX package Mike, On the older Rangers, the STX package was considered the "Off Road Package." For 1998 they have finally called that the Off-Road Package. Before 1998 this meant 265's, off road lights, and grey/charcoal bumpers/grill and fender moldings. I think for 1998 the 265 is no longer the standard tire on the ORP because of the new 5 speed Auo tranny, but the 16" wheel is standard. Pre-98 the STX also included a "paint stripe" or graphics to resemble those of the Ford Rough Riders-the Off-Road racing team. 98'a have the scaled down 4x4 Off Road decal from it's big brother, the F-beast. The STX was also available in a two wheel drive Ranger, but I don't recall what was special about this truck. It could have just been an appearance package that included some funky graphics. You've probably seen the F-150 STX around also. That 4x2 is supposedly meant to tease people before the Lightning comes out. That's a sweet looking truck with color matched bumpers and the 4x4 grill. > From owner-fordtrucks-small > what exactly is the STX package? I have a 97 4.0 ex. cab ranger. For one set i used Ford escort seats which fit in relatively easy. And the other i used Recarro's that were in a Mustang. It's not so hard....just take your time and make sure that it's level. I tried fitting Saab seats b/c they not only looked cool, but they had heating and power options. The brackets on these couldn't really be modified without taking apart the whole seat, so i went with Recarro's instead. Happy hunting. You could option an XLT so it was close to an STX, but you can tell them apart by the bumpers (grey, not chrome or body color) and the wheels (same as the Explorers... tear drops in my case). They also slathered them in PURPLE stripes... mine came from the factory with the "tape delete....n/c" option. All that was left was a purple STX on the tailgate (now gone). I believe the package also included the 265/75/15" tires, lower front valance with fog lights and skid plates. I'm not an expert, so I don't know where the STX package ended & the options began, but I think I got the leather wrapped steering wheel as part of the STX deal. I believe it was (it is not available in the '98 lineup) Ford's "hardcore" 4X package. I am still pleased with the truck's appearance and performance. I am starting to think about upgrading the exhaust with a cat back from my local muffler shop. I think the STX is the "rarest" (if you can call ANY Ranger rare) of the breed. They have adjustable lumbar support, adjustable seat width and adjustable leg support. I would think they should be a more "painless" swap then most non-ford products. There should be plenty to choose from in the junkyards also. Later..... I haven't noticed any change in the mpg. In re to another mpg subject that we've talked about recently, I do get better gas mileage with non-reformulated gas. About 19-20 mpg vs. 18-19 mpg. I assume this is because our engines are designed to run on gas, not alcohol. I would reccomend that you go to a place that lets you listen to speakers, see what you like, and then buy mail order or from a discount place. Personally, I or my friends have had a lot of luck with Pioneer and Alpine. If I were looking for a pair of good 6x9's I would expect to pay between $75 and $100. I would tell you to also install them yourself because it is very easy (speaking from a 94 ranger owners point of view) I would also reccomend that you ask for your speakers to be encased in a foam baffle. This is basically a foam cup that goes around your speaker. These might set you back about $15 but it will help keep the sound in your cab instead of going through the thin sheetmetal and outside. that my .02$ (and maybe a little more) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 23:27:15 EDT From: SNOOP22222 Subject: My view on STX STX is the top of the line basically, imbetween an XLT and a Splash. I have broken both u joints in the front end in the 4 months I have had it. Now the the hole thing is leaking oil. I am think about taking an axle out of a 4 liter ranger or explorer and putting it in. I have heard of people doing this but never heard how hard it is to do. Can I still use my same brakes and drive shaft? Also is it worth dumping the 7.5 inch.... To access the rest of this feature you must be a logged in Registered User Of Ford Truck Enthusiasts
