I'm getting ready for the "BIG" swap planned for this weekend.
Saturday is the "gather the parts" day. I'm putting a 460 from a '77
Lincoln into a '78 F150 4x4. According to the Ford dealer the 460 was
an option for the '78 F150 so will I be able to use the stock 460
motor mounts? Will I have to change oil pans? and boy there sure are
alot of hoses on that 460. Any last minute advice?

I thought that the 300 six, 302-351w, 351c all used the same
bellhousing? I have a 351c in the garage and the bellhousing from the
300 bolts right up.

Here is my $.02 worth...
A friend of mine (who is in the transmission repair business) said
it can be done. He prefers the AOD trannys out of early eighties foMoCo
vans and p-ups. He said the tranny is similar to a C-6.
If you wait a month, I'll tell you how it goes. I have just
located a donor truck, and I am told I need all the linkage up the
steering column also.
At the same time I am overhauling the transfer case. Does anyone
in Ford-land know if the NP205 will work with a Dana 60??? (The 205 is
gear drive, part-time, if I am not mistaken....

Yup,

The motor mounts, exhaust manifolds and oil pan won't work.

Try L & L for the mounts and headers or stock truck exhaust manifolds and a rear sump pan from a later model 4 x 4 460 or a van.

The only way I have of telling you is is you find the door post code
plate(maybe under some paint?) Vin on title doesn't seem right, Should be
F10DC390636 if it is a 292. Vin should be stamped on inner fender panel(I
think on left side) and on frame rail near rear of motor. If I'm right it
is assembled at Ontario Truck Plant. D would make it dallas and I'm not
sure that they did trucks at that time.
